Great for chili, soups, etc...
This is a great value and enduring product. I've had my Rival crock pot for over 10 years, and have used it literally HUNDREDS of times. This is another one of those very low cost but high value kitchen tools.

The low setting allows for slow (12 hour+) cooking overnight or all day. I love to put on a pot of chili before I go to bed or work, and let the house soak up the aroma!

Just be careful with the countertop placement, as the sides get very hot!

We're a Rival Family
When I was looking for a crockpot, I wanted something affordable and durable. My Mom had a Rival crock pot when I was younger (it was orange and older than the hills). My Dad also has an older version of this one, only it has a plastic lid. After 10 years, the lid broken, but it still works.

I got this one and love it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that are available with some of the more costly models, nor does it have a design. It is just a nice crock pot that is big enough for a small roast or a pot of chili (which is great on a winter's day)

    Not bad for the price
My husband got this for me last christmas and I've used it an average of twice a week since then(for almost a year). This is my first crock pot, and I've really enjoyed it. The good points about this crock pot, other than the low price, are the same good points you'll find for any slow cooker I belive. I can cook a wide variety of bean dishes, stews, spageti sauces, a whole chicken(it's a snug fit, but it can be done), chili, roasts and more without burning them. Before getting this crock pot, I had never been able to cook decent beans. Now bean soups, ranch style beans, blackeye peas are household favorites.

The size is a good one for a small family. We're a family of four, and I've found that if I make a full pot of something with this we usually have plenty of leftovers for lunches or another meal. It has a plastic lid, which does well in the dishwasher, but there is sometimes gapping since it doesn't fit snugly. I haven't found that to be a big problem though.

Bad Point: You can't remove the crock part, which I do not like. This makes it more of a hassle to clean. I will be getting another crock pot and will deffinitly not get another one without a removable crock.

    Think before you buy.
I own this crockpot and it works very well. I do find it too small to make a pot roast in. You can make a roast, but if you want to add potatos and carrots forget it. I use mine for beans. It makes plenty of beans for 6-8 people. I do not like the fact you cannot remove the crock. It make cleanup a chore, as you have to be careful not to get the electrical parts wet. I own the larger oval unit made by Rival, with the removable crock and make my pot roast and corned beef etc. in it. Clean up is a snap. I also like to prepare my food the night before, put it in the removable crock in fridge, and start the food in the morning.
This crockpot works well but is too small.

    Not a "Happy Cooker"
Loved the slow cooker until the dial and handle cracked and fell off. It appeared the outside covering became too hot and caused the problem. I'm looking for something that will last a little longer.

    Problem with handles
Although I have no complaints about cooking in this crockpot - everything turns out just fine - both handles cracked and fell off. Makes it difficult to transport food to other locations.

    EVERYTHING EXCEPT!!!!!!!!!
I am a single man that loves to cook. The Crockpot is perfect for a dinner for two and left overs for lunch the next day.
The ceramic liner is sublime, my only regret is that the decoration design is totally hooky. Straight from the Fifties, I know there is a stainless steel one available but it defeats the perpose as it just generates heat.(And costs more!) Something like a simple band of green rather than the cute ivy please. It is 2002.

    TOO HOT!!!!!
Had the water problem as stated by other consumers. Water
puddle in front of slow cooker and on the floor. Slip and fall
danger. Not a small puddle at all.
ALSO MAJOR temp problem. On LOW, my meat cooked in about half the time. 6 hours (3.5 lb. pot roast) recipe was for 10-12 hours. The warm feature was set by the manufacturer, still continued to cook my meal. Dangerous situation to say the least.
The Hot temp on low and the water spewing everywhere happened with 2 different Rival pots. returned both.,

Water leaks out from under the lid
This Rival crock pot is my third or fourth crock pot. All of its predecessors eventually stopped working. However, none of them experienced the problem I discovered when I first used this model: The lid is too light to keep water from building up around the edge of the pot. Eventually the lid begins to float on a layer of hot water around the edge of the pot. I had to keep mopping the water away from the rim of the crock pot in order to keep it from overflowing onto the counter--and that water was hot, as it was condensing from steam. I was using the low setting, so I'm not exactly dying to find out how fast the water builds up when I set it to 'high.'

The next time I use this pot, I'll try setting some kind of weight on the lid. If you purchase this model, beware of hot water leakage, and adjust for the fact that whatever you are cooking in the pot is going to be a little drier than you might have expected because of the escaping water.

    I Love It.
I've had this crock-pot for about a year and I couldn't be happier. This was my first crock-pot purchase and I've done nothing but rave to my friends about it.
I've read other reviews about Rivals getting too hot and the lids cracking. While the outside does get hot (why wouldn't it you're cooking in it for an average of 8 hours) the handles do not and I've had no problems with the lids. I use it regulary and put both the porcelain pot and the lid in the diswasher after each use (with no problems). I think it's a great, I use it constantly especially when I'm having guests. Every meal I've made in it has tasted wonderful!

    Would give it zero stars
We bought this crock pot to replace an older Rival pot that doesn't have a removable stoneware insert, in hopes that it would be easier to clean and use. I loved the look of this pot as well as the convenience. Since we've been happy with the construction and performance of our older Rival pot, we picked a new one from the same maker.

What a mistake...apparently, Rival's design and quality control are no longer what they once were. The outside of this pot heats up far more than our older pot does, to the point that it is a burn risk. Plus, the lid is very lightweight and doesn't have a "lip" to send condensation back into the pot. Instead, it slowly spits boiling hot water all over the counter. Since we have a toddler and safety is a major concern, this pot went right back to Target! We've been looking for a better model, but all the Rival pots seem to have the new flimsy lid and thus probably the same spitting hot water problem. Not sure what to suggest, except not to buy this pot.

    Cracked Handles!
In agreement with the rest of the posts on this item...Our crock pot lasted two years (receiving it as a wedding present), and upon pulling it out of the cabinet yesterday, the handles cracked and fell off! Now, we have to buy a replacement that will cost more money??? Can't they put out a stainless steel crock pot built to last??? Don't buy this product unless you want to replace it every couple of years!

    Great Crock Pot!
I recieved this crock pot as a wedding gift over a year ago, and I absolutely love it! I've used it to make pot roast, chili and chicken & dumplings, and it has performed wonderfully everytime! Mine sits on the counter and I have not had to lift it a lot, but have had no problems with the handles. I would highly recommend this crock pot, the stainless steel looks great, the black crock is easy to clean and doesn't stain, it's easy to use and lets me cook dinner while I'm at work!
