TASTY FOOD GREAT CROCKPOT
Just bought this crockpot this weekend or actually on Black Friday 2003, it was inexpensive and it is a great way for me to learn how to cook for one instead of making large meals and having to freeze a ton of food.

A great crock pot if you are cramped on space i.e. apartment, studio, small townhouse, cape cod living. Doesn't take up much room and can fit a decent size portions of food in the crock pot.

Makes flavorful food...delicious....the toughest of cuts turn out perfection!

great for dips
I love this smaller crockpot for dips of any kind. My family has food at every get together and having this 2 1/2 quart crockpot is perfect. It makes cleaning up easier too.

customer service- whatta JOKE!
My heating element went out after 3 uses. Rival wanted me to ship the entire unit plus [$] to get a new one. They wouldn't accept my offer to send just the shell/heating portion(much lighter to ship). needless to say after several emails with the same Customer service person I have NOTHING. Dont by a Rival, try Westbend.

Good...unless you need customer service
I recently broke my stoneware insert. If this happens to you, just go buy another crockpot, DON'T try to replace the insert. The Rival people sent the wrong size twice, as well as a bunch of other things I had not ordered, and when I asked for my credit card to be refunded, they did not respond. Luckily my credit card company was more helpful, or I would have paid for that stuff! I kept trying with them until my letter to the Rival president received no response--then I went out and bought a Hamilton-Beach. It's great, by the way....

Indispensable crock pot
If you haven't seen your crock pot for a couple of decades, dig it out of the back of the gadget cupboard & try it again. If you're looking for a new one, this is an excellent candidate. I got this one when my old cheap-o crock pot finally gave up the ghost, and I use it continually. The cool-touch exterior really does stay cool (my old crock got so hot I had to move everything away from it while I was cooking -- what a relief to not have to do that anymore). Also, it's quite large, big enought to fit an 8-lb turkey breast. The lid is a good, tight fit, which is the most crucial thing in crock pot cooking. I'm loving mine, you'll love it too :-)

Great for everything
I really like this combination slow cooker and skillet. I bought it in the clearance section of a major chain store because it had no product manual but was able to get one from manufacturer. We used this for breakfast items like bacon, eggs, hashbrowns. On days we were going to be gone I would put in a whole chicken and have the best waiting for us when we got home. On Sunday morning before church I would put in some meat and a few vegetables and potatoes and have lunch ready when we get home.I even make fried chicken in this you can open the vent to get the skin crispy and still control splatters . .BUT oh my, I got up this morning and either the thermostat or the fry skillet isnt working. I think I can get replacements parts (I think) but it might be cheaper to get a new skillet??? I do LOVE this . I paid $25.00 on clearance.I want another one so bad. I bought it last summer and it quit on Easter Sunday.

Christmas gift gone bad
I was very excited to see a high tech crock pot under my tree, only to find out that it is difficult to manuever. The menu screen is hard to read and I don't believe there is over 200 recipes, its like uh...what are my options? Not only is there little choice really, the buttons don't exactly function well. You have to push them very hard and you have to be a magician to find that working spot. If you have lots of time, this unit is for you.

Love it!
I have to disagree with a lot of the negative reviews - I really like this crockpot a lot....the shift-to-warm feature is wonderful, as are all the programmatic functions. The lid fits just fine, and the pot is nice looking as well (yes, it's kind of big, but it's supposed to be! It's all pot, not additional packaging). I do agree that the recipes should be in a book, but, with that said, the recipes I've made so far were lousy anyway - very bland. So, the recipe function is an add-on that may be nice on principle, but not a reason by itself to buy the pot. Buy it for its digital capabilities, design and volume.

Much better than the other one
After two failed attempts with the other Rival slow cooker, I got this one for Christmas. What a difference! While the other crock pot was a slow cooker in name only, this did the job extremely well. I've used it twice on the low setting, and both times the food was cooked perfectly. The recipes were easy to follow, although it would be nice if they were also in a seperate booklet so they'd be easier to preview. Clean up was a breeze. I'd highly recommend this!

Terrible Crock Pot
I asked for this crock pot for Christmas because the features sounded so wonderful and it had a nice size and a great look. I am very disappointed with this product. Everything I have tried to cook has burned and I am using tried and true recipes that I cooked in my old crock pot and worked fine before. It doesn't matter which setting I use, it ends up burning my food. If you do notice that your food is cooking too quickly, if you happen to be home and see it happening, you can't even turn it to warm manually, it can only be done automatically when the cooking time is complete. You have no choice but to turn it off and then the food will not stay warm. This is way more trouble than it's worth. I'm going back to old fashioned kind with a turn knob. Sad thing is I threw the box away to this item and now can't even return it!

Poor Quality
I received this item as a shower gift. For the first two years it worked great. However, over the past two months I have spent about $50 on roasts that were overcooked and as hard as a brick. At first Ithought it was the cut of the roast, but now I have discovered that crock pot no longer cooks on low.

Not the Rival quality you may be used to
I have owned and/or used several Rival crock pots and think they are wonderful. This one was a waste of money. It is almost aways in use. The handle on the lid started to crack and come loose. It finally broke off and the glass lid shattered on the floor. I haven't been able to find a replacement lid, so I've been covering the crock with aluminum foil when it is in use.

I purchased another Rival crock pot (Rival 6-Qt. Slow Cooker) and have been VERY happy with it. It doesn't have all the fancy accessories (but they are available separately), but I haven't had any problems with it.

I have also noticed that food will ocassionally get over cooked because the pot gets too hot. If you are cooking meat or something in a gravy sauce, it will burn. I've noticed that I have to water down thicker sauces if I don't want them to burn or I have to constantly watch them and keep stirring them. This takes away from the convenience of this item.

The 'smart-pot' is great and I found that it is available separately, I am definitely going to get that attachment.

The dipper is great for cheese dips or for dinner for one.
