I have this toaster in RED ! It looks great, is sturdily built, & does a great job . I especially like the "manual" pop-up feature-- no more burnt fingers, or fishing with a fork to get at your bagel or muffin.

I bought this because of using a Rowenta iron for a few years and knowing that the extra $ for it was well spent. Also, after reading reviews from this site and reading its high ratings from other people who had purchased it. If we don't have a defective one then everybody who gave a 4 or 5 rating is insane!! I bought the new one because my girlfriend was tired of the one I owned for 10 years and I thought Rownta would make a bombproof unit like their irons. It is the most uneven toaster I have ever used. I could care less if we paid $15-20 that would be expected but considering their price no way. I'm in the process of returning, I'm going to try to get another one and see if it was faulty but I'm not holding my breath. They need to stick to irons, diversifing is diworsifing.

Based on the previous reviews we purchased this toaster, primarily because the slots accommodate bagels. It looks OK and reasonably well made, though the gray components are a rather flimsy plastic. But what a disappointment! This is the most uneven toaster we have ever experienced. The problem seems to be the outer heating elements. The inner elements (in the center between the two slots) are the typical flat metal filaments. However the outer element (on the outboard side of each slot) is a single ceramic rod about a 1/2" in diameter, which is positioned horizontally in the lower third of the slot. So, if you toast something long enough to give it some color you will find the lower half is dark while the upper half is virtually untouched. We sent it back.

Our old Black & Decker wasn't doing the job anymore. So after checking out all the different toasters I decided to purchase this one due to the rave reviews it got. Maybe my stadards are too high or I just expected more from a $60.00 toaster.
The high points are that it has wide enough slots for bagels. They don't jam, touch, or cook onto the heating elements. The warming feature is okay, but nothing to write home about.

The one thing that urks me is that for $60.00 I would have expected my beagels to be evenly toasted and they're not. They turn out exactly the way they did in my old toaster... (all on the sliced side) light on top, golden in the center and on the verge of burning on the bottom. Plus, when you push the bagel button you'll get the above described top and a doughy bottom. I ended up starting the toaster in toast mode, wait 1/2 way throught the cycle before I push the bagel button in order to not end up with crusty on the top and dough on the bottom.
Like I said, it could just be me, but I don't feel that it's worth the money.

We are very disappointed in this toaster. Browning is very uneven. Only nice thing is that it is extra deep.
