Very good cookware set.Circulon, T-Fal, Jamie Oliver T-Fal, Emerilware, etc.
These high end sets have a concave bottom which some people
claim will flatten out when you cook, but since these units
have thick bottoms, I have doubts that the cookware will flatten
out, a requirement for Ceran type electronic cooktops. I noticed
the cheap stuff costing $10 was more planar on the bottom which
is sorta odd.
The next thing I looked at was the handles. This Alonon Titanium
seems to have the best handles of all the high end sets. It's
thick and hollowed out I believe and fits well in your hand.
The Jamie Oliver T-Fal was also good, the handles were wide and
stout. Everything else was mediocre, it's too small and you don't
feel in control of the cookware.
The next thing I looked at was the thickness of the materials.
The Alonon Titanium I measure at over 200 mils thick, it's
very good. The Emerilware claims 5mm thick which is also about
200 mils. The Jamie Oliver cookware is different, it has a
very thick base, I'm estimating around 375 mils thick, stainless
exterior, but the rest of the cookware piece has thin walls.
A different design.
I like the thick hard anodized aluminum with non-stick interior
and composite titanium exterior coating that the Alonon set
provides. It seems to be more resistive to scratches than without
the coating and it looks glossy vs. a satin like the other hard
anodized cookware. The Jamie Oliver T-Fal is also nice, I like
the stainless exterior.
My main concern is planarity of the bottom for my electric
range. Normally I would have probably settled for the Jamie
Oliver T-Fal if it was planar because it's lower in cost, but
taking into consideration how thick the base is, I have doubts
that this cookware will flatten out during heat. I decided to
get the Alonon set even thought it cost more, mainly because it's
200 mils all around the cookware and the superior handles.
Everyone seems to recommend the All-Clad cookware. I saw some
All-Clad stainless steel, MC2, and Copper exterior at the same
store, so it was easy to compare. If I didn't know this was
suppose to be the high end stuff, I would have guessed that
it was the low end stuff just by looking at it. The stainless
steel set has nothing interesting to offer. The material isn't as
thick, the handles are thin (like Emerilware) and it's
overpriced. The MC2 is just plain ugly and it's standared
bare aluminum, stainless interior, it's too easy to scratch
the aluminum.
I'm giving the Anolon Titanium only 4 stars because the bottom
planarity of the larger diameter pieces are too concave for
my liking. The smaller pieces aren't too bad, but I expect
perfection. Considering that all the high end sets suffer from
planarity, then technically this set would get 5 star rating.
These are really, really great!I love these pots! I do use the dishwasher and the recommended dishwasher soap and they seem to stand up fine. I am very protective of them, and no one is allowed to stack dishes inside of them. I am still getting used to them though; they require much less oil than I am used to. They also require much less heat than I am used to. I have not used them in the oven, because I just find it akward to put a pot in the oven and have found no need to do so. I love the large 12" saute pan. They are all more than adequate in size.
I also just ordered the steamer 3 piece set and a stir-fry pan. If I had more money to spare, I'd also get the roaster.
I do not understand why these aren't in the stores. If they were marketed better, I think everyone would want them over the other options. Our local Macy's didn't carry them.
