Good idea but in practice not used much
really nice for pastaThis pan is really nice for pasta. Good heavy weight. You can tell this pan will last.
A Pratical Cook and MomMy family gave me this set for Mothers Day. I really love it. The heating is very even in this pan. I never need to use heat over med to cook. I can cook 1 1/2 pounds of pasta. The insert holes are too small for pasta to pass through. When lifting pasta out you have to do so slowly to allow the water to drain into the pan. I then leave the insert at an angle to serve from the pot this keeps the pasta warm. I was able to cook 6-8 ears of corn-on-the-cob by standing the ears on end. I can cook large quantities of vegetables and drain to serve without effort. The stockpot is great. It is deep enough to make jams without the jam splashing out of the pan onto the stove like my other stockpot. The set is too big to fit in the dishwasher with the dishes from the meal, but it does fit. I am able to clean it easily after cooking, even cooked jam without much effort at all. This set is a very practical addition to my kitchen.

An Apartment Dwelling Cooks ViewpointI have had this pasta cooker for almost a year and I find it to be a very versatile pan indeed. While it is not a pot that you would be use to cook for a large family, but for 1 to 3 people it is perfect. Especially if you require a pan to be multi functional. With the pasta insert in place you can cook pasta or steam a load of vegetables, it will even cook a dozen eggs or more. Remove the insert and it is a perfect size to make a small stew or a batch of soup. It heats evenly and works wonders on medium to medium-low heat. On low heat it will simmer for hours and the glass lid means you can monitor the progress without letting out the heat. If you have an electric range it will fit and heat well on either the small or large burner. For a single person or a 2 to 3 person family in a smaller home or apartment where storage space is at a premium this is a must have pan.
Not for PastaI am giving this pot 4 stars because I love Anolon Classic cookware but, it is really to small for cooking pasta. To get enough water in the basket it is to full and boils over. You can only cook very small amounts of pasta. The pot is a great small stock pot.
Outstanding! We got this pot as a wedding gift. It is absolutely outstanding as a vegetable steamer. The veggies come out much more flavorful than boiling and there is not the loss of nutrients associated with boiling. We love it: it rocks. We have also used it for pasta with and without the insert and have had great results. I (the cook of the relationship) like it so much. ...

Nice product, but not like other (U.S. made) All-CladHaving a number of All Clad products in my kitchen, I was excited to see this stockpot at such a low "close out" price. When it arrived, I was somewhat disappointed to see that it is not the same construction or quality as the other All Clad cookware that I have. When I ordered it, I wondered why this 12 qt pot was priced so much less than other smaller stockpots (and about 1/3 the price of the All Clad pasta cooker), and now I know - this "multi cooker" was not made in the U.S., it was made in China (as is the Emerilware). It seems deceptive (and is disappointing) that this bears the exact same label as the U.S. product and the description gives no indication that it is anything less than the same U.S. made All Clad, which is well known to many of us. However, in fairness, I need to say that priced at under [$$$], this is still one heck of a pot that I will enjoy using, but just be aware that it is a different quality of All Clad cookware.
I research before I purchase.I'm always amazed at reviews that express shock or disappointment at the product. This is because Amazon does a great job with being clear and up front on items...especially all-clad.
This item is a particular value. I found it to be as good as most of my all-clad collection, and having the same sturdy construction. Considering the lid, the pot, the two baskets, I regard this not simply as a quality item, but an exceptional value too.
It may not be great for a lobster bake, but for soups, stock, pasta, shellfish like mussels or clams, shrimp...it is a hit. Best of all, there is no obligation to keep a product you don't like.
I think this will be one of the pieces I use most frequently.

Excellent PurchaseIt is true that this stockpot is differently constructed if compared to the ususal all clad stockpot. But there is a reason for it. It is made to be used for pasta kind of cooking. It is not usefull to have very thick steel on sides for these type of cooking uses. For other purpose, you want to have as even heat distribution as you can using steel thickness to acheive distribution of heat.
The bottom is ULTRA THICK and it is solid and heavy.
Overall I consider I made a very good purchase.

On the great side, the 7qt pot turns out to make great soups. It fits the small burner at the back of the stove. The soups rarely burn even without stirring. And the steamer works for that big batch of clams I have once a year. So while I won't give it away, I'm not sure I would buy it on a second time aroound. (The plain 7qt stock pot, now that I would get.)
I still get a lot of "Wow's" from people who see it in my kitchen but is that worth the extra $...?
So consider getting just the stock pot. (Unless you like lots of clams/mussels etc.)
