Sharp Knives - Sharp PriceExcellant, very pleased. I can not understand why one would pay 100's for forged knives when this set fills the kitchen bill to a fine edge. More then acceptsble for an ordinary cook.
Good Set...when saw this one could not resist, so cheap and it is forged steel. To my dissapointment it is made in China, but what do you expect. The quality is good, the steel is nice and thick, they are balanced well, sharp, and seem good quality. I am not sure how they are in the long run, but are fine for now. The only drawback.....no steak knifes to go with the set.
Great CuttingI got my set of knives about 2 weeks ago and I am VERY pleased with them. They are heavy, feel comfortable to use, and are sharp. The block that they fit into is attractive also.

Excellent blade that is sure to stay sharpI've had this chef's knife for 3 years now, and it's still razor sharp. I only occassionally hone it on a sharpening steel, much less frequently than my other knives. Why does this knife stay so sharp, you ask? First of all, it is my opinion that Mac makes some of the best knives on the market. Secondly, I only use this knife for vegetables. I use my other knives for meats, cheese, bread, etc.
I also have several Henkels and Wüsthof knives, but I much prefer the Mac to the German blades.

super bargain for novice chefsthis knife has the similar feel, heft, and shape as the fancy German stuff but at something like 20% of the price!! OK ...
the finish is not super clean, but get one of the pricey knives and use it hard for a few years and it won't look perfect anymore either. the blade itself has a smoother radius for proper rocking motion than many of the more expensive knives. the blade is not highly polished, but i feel that is an advantage. i have used enough of the highly polished blades to know that many "wetter" vegetables (like zucchinis) tend to cling to the polished blades. they don't cling as much to the farberware blade. The blade also took a wonderful edge with just a few strokes of a ceramic sharpener and stayed sharper than its German brethren.
all in all, cost less, performs better than stuff costing 3X-5X as much. just not quite as pretty.
