I found these knives to be very strong and great for all the cooking needs. Excellent value for the excellent quality of knives.

I have owned the 14 piece Farberware Professional Fine Edge Knife Set for about 4 years now. They were my first home purchase after graduating college. (Yes, I owned those crappy $20 sets before!) Let me tell you, it was a huge improvement! These knives actually CUT raw meats and chicken with nice slices without tearing it apart!

This set comes with 14 pieces:
8-inch chef's knife
8-inch slicing knife
6 3/4-inch fillet knife
5-inch boning/utility knife
3-inch paring knife
six (6) 4 1/4-inch steak knives
9-inch sharpening steel
8-inch kitchen shears
hardwood storage block

The knives are heavy duty and strong. They are not flimsy like other knives in this price range. Actually, this is probably the best Farberware set on the market in terms of quality and durability. They are definitely on par with the Henckels International Fine Edge Pro set which retails for $200 and are currently listed on Amazon/Macys/RobinsonsMay for about $100. ("Henckels International" is the more economical brand, not to be confused with the "Zwilling JA Henckels" brand which is the premium brand. Same manufacturer, different grades of metal and quality. You can tell the difference by the look of the logo...the cheaper "International" brand has the one tribal guy on the logo, whereas the "Zwilling" brand has twin tribal guys on the logo.)

Keep in mind that with all "fine edge" knives, you will need to sharpen and hone fairly frequently. (Or at least more frequently than a lot more expensive forged sets.) I do it once every few months. But I also do a lot of cutting with them, so the frequency will depend on how often you use them for cutting tough foods. I cook a lot of meats, including cutting up my own chicken, so that dulls the knives rather quickly. If all you cut are veggies, then your knives won't dull as quickly.

They are dishwasher safe, but I don't recommend it because the dishwasher will dull all knives. However, occasionally I toss them in the dishwasher and haven't had any problems.

If you cook often and don't want to pay $200 for a decent knives, this set is for you.

I bought a similar Pro set which included 6 steak knifes. I had to take the wooden block & 2 knifes back to the store since they were made defective. As for comparing them with Wusthof, there is a very big difference. The handles on the Farberware are fatter,
not as well balanced, the steel is not as good and alot of cosmetic flaws also. They do hold an edge and are cheaper to buy but in my opinion; they do not even come close to the quality of a Wusthof! The old expression of: You get what you pay for; is very true in this case. I do not feel a Chinese made knife can compare with a well name brand German or Japanese knife. But if you can't afford Wusthof, these are a good alternative with shortcomings. I did have to re-edge and re-sharpen my set of Farberware, right out of the box!

Gave these to my Mom for Mother's Day and she loved them. They are a Consumer Reports best buy and worth every penny.

Of course Farberware doesn't have the reputation for cutlery of Wusthof or Henckels, but I just got this set for my daughter who is heading off for college. It's really quite nice as a good priced starter set. The pine block has a nice clean look and the knives arrived sharp and looking good. This might not be the set of a lifetime, but it's a fine bargain.

Had the knives two weeks, and was really impressed by the look feel and cut. However, after a couple of washes, rust spots began appearing. I suppose if I washed them all by hand and dried them off right away instead of air drying this wouldn't have happened(my fault..(?) ). I expected better, since I've had cheap K-mart knives for 10 years that didn't rust. I contacted farberware and they did say that if I return the rusted knives they would exchange them, with a turn around time of 6-8 weeks.

These knives are good. I could cut ripe tomatoes without mushing it. The are handy, good looking & very easy to clean.

Oh my gosh! They are sleek, elegant, and very managable. I thought at first, "no, don't pay that much for a set of knives that will eventually rust". I'm glad I did. I've had mine for about one year. I've had similar brands and all they did were rust. Yuk! I suggest that you go for it. Take the plunge and purchase a set of these knives. You will not regret that you did.

I love the look of the one piece cutlery, the sharpener, and the good quality wooden block, but I am not psyched with the cutting ability of the steak knives. I've kept the ones from my older, cheaper set b/c they seem to cut things much better. Things like bread, tomatoes and steak just don't cut well with the knives included in this set.

With the exception of the sharpening steel this is a good set of knifes for the price. I was leery of the stainless handles being slippery or uncomfortable but they are just the opposite. The balance is also good. Will work nicely if only used from time to time.

I bought this item because it said it was stainless steel. Well I have rust everywhere on them I cannot put them in the dishwasher or let them sit in the sink to long. Can I return these? I am very unsatisfied. Can you e-mail an address so I can send photos of these awful knives.

I have spent alot of time looking for inexpensive good quality knives and with these I found them. I never put knives in a dishwasher so I don't have the rust problem, dishwashers aren't good for washing knives anyways, they dull them. I cut up alot of veggies and meats and these knives hold up pretty good. I don't know how to use a sharpener, as the set comes with one, but haven't had to with these. I would recommend.

I am a collector of quality pocket and hunting knives but also I appreciate quality kitchen knives.
I am a very busy person and therefore I don't like to write reviews. However, I read a naive nonsense review about this set and I have no choice but to say the truth for the sake of justice and truth. The knives are sharpened from both sides and of very good quality. Actually the knives except the serrated ones are thin up to an inch from the edge. This will make it easy to sharpen them. I saw this feature in high quality knives such as "BUCK" hunting knives. What the reviewer said is simply wrong. The only knives sharpened from one side are the serrated knives (only 2 knives out of five knives). All serrated knives on earth from very expensive to cheap ones are serrated from one side. Why? There is no need to sharpen it from the other side and it is technically impossible. Check this for yourself. The reviewer used the wrong knife for the wrong job. This set worths more than [money] and if you take care of it, it will last forever.
