A Bargin, But Must Quickly Replace
OXO has been distinguished due to their dramatic and ergonomic handles that give the user a solid grip. For the price shown on this site, you're getting two average quality products with a nice handle.

I am a personal chef, and in my years of working I have had the opportunity to buy and use several different brands including Henkels (from Germany), Wusthof, Sabatier, and Cutco, in addition to many "bargain" brands including OXO. To speak frankly of the product, I have been very disappointed. The blades are constructed of a stainless steel, which dull very quickly. Stainless Steel is the softest metal used in knives. Second, like another user mentioned, they don't do well in dishwashers. Third (and most important), the paring knife is dangerous. In using the paring knife, I found that the handle was too big for my hand. Also, the grip is not a consistent grip or designed ergonomically. I found it very difficult to get a stable hold on the knife while I was using it, and, consequently, had several accidents with it.

OXO knives and other products are a bargain, but you will pay for it in the long run because you'll continually need to replace them.

Buying these products is not a deal - they need to be replaced quickly because of their wear. Invest your money in a higher quality set of knives.

One Heck of a Kitchen Set...Just Avoid the Diswasher!
I bought this set when I first moved into my apartment, as I've been a fan of the Good Grips products for a while now. This set is absolutely indespensible, as I use these tools almost every day.

Peeler: This is wonderful for peeling potatoes, as the easy-to-grip handle and swivel blade help you to comfortably maneuver around bumpy and slippery surfaces.

Knife: Since purchasing the set 4 months ago, my knife has stayed incredibly sharp and is able to cut through everything from crunchy carrots to smooshy tomatoes.

Here's why the set didn't get the "5" rating: The pair should be hand washed and *not* put in the dishwasher. The knife got a tad rusty after running it through a cycle. Note: This was easy to correct with a Brillo pad and a little elbow grease.

However, I don't think you should let this "diswasher drama" sway you from purchasing this set, as the benefits *far* outweigh the limitations.

Good for smaller hands
After getting the paring knife as a wedding present, I fell in love with oxo's handles. For mother's day last year, I purchased this set for my mother and my mother-in-law. Both have small hands and greatly appreciated their ease of use.

room for improvement
For the most part, I've enjoyed my Good Grips utensils. The mini chef knife was easy to handle and very sharp at first. However the blade became dull after a short period of very light use. Now it's even showing rust spots! I can only think OXO used poor quality steel in this knife for it to have deteriorated so quickly.

Low Quality, OXO Knives Generally Poor Quality
This two piece knife set is one of the first knive sets I ever purchased. At first I thought the mini chef was great and the parer so so. In time, the handles came off both and I tossed them because the handles kepts slipping off and that's not safe.

Now, I love knives and have the finest forged German and French knives. I've come to appreciate knive quality and this is not it. These knives do not have a full tang or a bolster. They are pressed junk in an ergonomic rubber grib. It's like they stuck a cheap knife in a kitchen utensil handle.

Instead of this junk, look at a low end set of Farberware knives. Be sure and get the "FORGED" set. Most Farberware is not forged but the forged stuff seems to always win best buy in Consumer Reports. If you don't want to spend the 50-70 bucks for the Farberware Forged line go for some low end Sabatier pressed or drop forged knives (all made in China not France at this price range)or Henkels Eversharp (pressed but dishwasher safe) for probaby fifty to under twenty monetary units.

Shape of mini-chef is a pleasure.
I have used the mini-chef for cutting garlic and spices and mincing small quantities of tomatoes and onions. The shape is excellent. It handles like a parer, but allows me to pick up the minced veggies with the side of the blade, something one just can't do with a parer. I can't speak to the quality of the steel (yet), but I had to sharpen the knives before use, which says something about the workmanship--not up to Oxo standards.

Low quality product.
This is a poorly made product. After a few months of use, the blade broke off. The handle is hard, brittle plastic covered with soft plastic. The blade extends into the brittle plastic only a little bit. The results were inevitable. Pure junk.

Good grip... Mediocre blade
This would be a fantastic knife if it had a better blade. Like all OXO Good Grips products, it is ergonomically designed and would be good for long use. Unfortunately, the blade is light and made of shoddy metal. It will not hold a good edge. Of course, I normally use good German knives, so I may have been spoiled.

Not worth it!!
I thought these were so cute. But, cute isn't what you want in a knife. I received them 20 days ago and they are all losing chips of paint and one has fallen apart. Live and learn from me...these are crap toys!
