Very disappointing
I ordered this new knife from Amazon based on the Laguiole name, prior Sabatier experience and the one review (5 stars). What a disappointment! One side of the blade had very visible tarnish and reddish blue spots (not sure whether rust or previously used). It also has a very light and extremely cheap look with poor manufacture. It is made in France, but it goes to show that junk comes out from there just as easy as from China, Pakistan or anywhere else. True you get what you pay for, but this one wouldn't be worth even 2 bucks at a yard sale. Maybe it was a defective unit, but I didn't want to take a chance with a replacement. I never even tried to use it, and simply returned it. To Amazon's credit, their return process was great. Just follow the online "return" process, print the (free/prepaid) return label, and take it to any USPS station. Amazon's service earned the second extra star.

the classiest knife
Laguiole knives are a pleasure to use and this one is wonderful to hold as well as an excellent slicer. Some pie and cheese cutters have a blade which is too wide for the purpose and it is awkward to use. This blade is ideal for both narrow and wide wedges. The curve at the end of the blade allows the user to easily pick up a piece of cheese or pie.
The true test, however, is the ability of a knife such as this to get the first slice of pie out of the plate without it crumbling and making a mess - and this knife does it beautifully!
It is also easy to clean and does not get water spots!
It's a five star!

Pleasant Enough
I Purchased a set simply because they came close in design to our everyday flatware. They come in a nice pine box which has no lid so they do take up space on a drawer or shelf. The knives themselves are very light weight. Our set (black and steel) was fine with no obvious flaws. The handles are lightweight plastic and the rivets are small so there is a question of how long they will hold up. They would have done better to use resin impregnated wood. The tang does go the length of the grip. These seem as sharp as any steak knives I have used and are quite comfortable in the hand and do afford good control when triming a steak or a chop close to the bone! I would say they are of the same level of quality that you might find at a Woolworths (of sainted memory!) or a K-Mart. Not something to buy if you are really looking to even come close to the traditional high quality of either Sabatier or Laguiole. That said I am planning on buying a second set to match the number of place settings of our everyday flatware.

Stylish steak knives
A grand surprise, these are much better looking and definitely better behaved than any I have bought over the years while paying much more. They are nicely balanced, cut well, and even look good as part of a place setting. The more slender shape, curved handle, and even the position of the Napoleonic bee come together in a nice design that is functional and a pleasure to use. (The little bee-shaped finger rest is a conversation starter too.) I've heard of another set by the same company with bone handles and a much higher price tag. These suit us just fine.

Qaulitiy from France for your table
The bumble bee is a known sign for qaulity in France. These type of knives are the same ones used in the top restaurants in France and the rest of the world over. There is not a finer steak knife in the world. I have been to the factory and have seen these craftsmen at work. They create perfection.

Unhappy with quality
When the salad set arrived, there was DIRT on one piece while the other was scratched. If it had not been for those obvious and unneccesary blemishes, the set would have been very attractive.

not quite as described
The Editorial Review states that " an innkeeper's son in the small French town of Laguiole invented this style of folding knife in the early 1800s." Unfortunately, the corkscrew does not fold.

The Ed. Review also states that "with this set in your pocket you can open. . . wine without a fuss." That may be true, but I'd still be fussing about the hole in my pocket from that screw.

Disappointing product, even at the low price.

Laguiole? La Return!
For appreciaters of fine wine and cooking, the name Laguiole is legendary. Go to the finest restaurants in Paris and order a bottle of good wine. Chances are the waiter will use a handmade corkscrew made in the village of Laguiole to open it. However, fame has bred commercialization and dilution of this famed locale. This set from Sabatier is a major disappointment. I certainly did not expect the same quality as a hundred dollar bone corkscrew from the village, but the quality of the metal casting is abominable. The corkscrew does not retract! And you are expected to just screw and pull! The bottle opener does not open some caps! You are better off with a plastic Screwpull than this set. Sabatier should be embarrassed!

Poorly designed
This opener does not work very well. It's ok, but I definitely do not recommend it.

Don't Touch It!
This product is a proverbial "dog with fleas." Stay away from it! IT DOESN'T WORK. The only reason I don't send it back is, for the price I paid, it's not worth the time and additional shipping cost. How anyone can try to sell this thing is almost criminal. Next time I'll read the reviews!

This is a piece of JUNK - I wouldn't take it for free!
What a MISTAKE it was buying this useless thing! I would have given it ZERO stars, but 1 star is the lowest you can go. I thought this might be an elegant utensil for the bar or table.I like the simplicity of a waiter's corkscrew, and with the Laguiole name attached, how could you go wrong? Well, I'll tell you. This is a clunky looking, poorly finished knock-off, and worse still, it literally DOES NOT FUNCTION. The handle is so chunky, that they had to make the folding pry-hook extra wide to fit it. So wide, in fact, that it no longer fits on the lip of a wine bottle! DUH! It's so bad, that you are much more likely to break the bottle, or worse, hurt yourself (really, no kidding) than you are to open the wine. The five dollar plastic and pot-metal Chinese jobs by the register at your liquor store will work better! The touted wooden tray is basically nothing more than a block of wood routed out to hold the "Laguiole" in an awkward open position. Why bother? If you want a good Waiter's corkscrew, I highly recommend the Le Cepage Stainless which is also available on Amazon for $20 or less (it is currently on sale for $16.96). It doesn't have the fancy looks or the "wooden tray," but what it is is a good basic design, quality construction, a Teflon worm, and best of all, it actually does the job! All at 2/3's the price of this counterfeit piece of trash!

Save your money
I purchased this as a gift for a friend at Xmas. For the money I paid, I wasn't expecting fireworks. However, I WAS expecting the thing not to BREAK APART the first time it was ever used. I really am not concerned with the Laguiole name; the thing costs under $30 after all. I just wanted a decent corkscrew to give as a gift. Embarrassing.

cheap version
unlike the set from last year that was great!!... these have a cheap feel and a thiner and bendable blade they do not even carry the Laguiole name on the blade now. not worth the money. came in a broken box that was pieces of two or three others that would not fit together. a pure waste

Sabatier Laguiole steak knives
I found the steak knives to be a very poor example of Laguiole.
The price ... was very fair, and did not expect the quality to match knives from the Laguiole region much more expensive. But these were very light weight, and the blades of
no better than promotional steak knives on TV
