Another Top of the Line, Must Have Knife for Carbon Fans ...
All life forms are based on Carbon - why not the finest tools for the kitchen? Read all the reviews on Carbon Steel knives so that your are educated about the care required when owning these knives. If you appreciate using the simplest, most elegantly basic of tools - you'll love the light, fine edge of Carbon Steel and the beautiful design, including the fine craftsmanship of these French knives.

I am lucky to have built a core collection of kitchen knives, and this is an outstanding slicer. The weight is light, the control delicate and this knife is a pleasure to use in every way. While a big Chef's Knife can be heavy and wieldy to use for significant kitchen duty, this slicer is long, sleek, agile and completely effective as a top of the line performer for the culinarily inclined. A college chum once didn't feel worthy of a particular tool he had purchased - if you are devoted in a culinary way, make a few core tools your partner for life and pay them respect through devoted use and care.

A few essential tools make any loved activity something close to art, why should a connection to food be any different. To see any devoted person performing their loved rituals, their work can seem effortless. A few of these Sabatier Carbon Knives have become my set of basics - they don't have to be the most expensive, the shiniest, the most widely recognized name. I have always sought the tools that empowered me to perform the task at hand as elegantly, and as effectively as possible, with the least interference from human-made "stuff". Honestly, this slicer may or may not bring out the Errol Flynn in you while in the kitchen, but it is certainly what I would classify as an elegant knife. When you have need for a slicing knife, few knives are as beautiful as they are effective.

Simple. No compromise. Powerful, basic tool. Rounds out any small essential array of kitchen knives, or becomes a prized solution in a well appointed kitchen. Treat yourself - enjoy this knife for a lifetime. Steel with each use!

FANTASTIC BOWLS!
I've been cooking for over 40 years and have used a lot of bowls, but these are the most fantastic! They are heavy-duty, shaped perfectly, and the variety of sizes works for everything. I've used wire whisks in 'em and put 'em in the dishwasher. They are beautiful! In fact, I have them hanging in my kitchen -- they never lose their luster. Buy these! You won't find a better bowl at a better price anywhere!

Great bowls!
What can I say? These are three stainless steel bowls. They hold things and do their job. They are very shiny and nice, even after being in the dishwasher. They are easy to clean. They have nice one-side only handles which at first I thought was strange, but actually, I have found easy to use and easy to stack because they don't fall into each other all the way, but you can still stack them. I highly recommend these if you need mixing bowls.

Can not love this set more
Best mixing bowl set I've ever had.
Super quality at reasonable price.
I also recommended it to several friends who ended up with being very satisfied with it, too.

Disappointed with finish
This is one item that looks much better in the picture than it does close up. I was very disappointed with the finish on the set i reeived - the shiny finish has several nicks, scrapes and runs (similar to paint when you apply too much). Also these are 18/10 stainless steel - heavier than 18/8 but they dont feel like they have the weight that 18/10 should (and the other 18/10 products I own). I gave them 3 stars mostly on value - if you would buy similiar tools individually, they would cost 10 per tool so you get this complete set for cost of 1 1/2 tools. If you are just looking for functionality and dont care about how they look close up, they are a good buy.

4/1 Update - one other thing to note, just used the large fork to hold a 4lb roast beef while slicing and the flat edge on the handle of the fork dug into my finger painfully. Didnt change my 3* rating, since the fork is ok for light use or you could throw it away and still have paid a decent price for the set.

Heaven
I love it. The weight is good the shine is excellent. In all it looks great in my kitchen. The price was right. Before Amazon.com recommended this to me I had seen the Oneida set in Bed Bath and Beyond and was going to purchase it, but the price for the Sabatier set impressed me, for [money] I got a great deal!

Classy Utensil Set
A very nice set indeed. The utensils are a nice size, perhaps bigger than expected and quite heavy. The set looks great on top of the stove. Even if you are not planning on using these, they make a great decorator piece for the kitchen. I haven't used or washed them yet, so I have no comment on how well they will hold up. However, they do not appear cheap in the least. I am glad I bought them.

Sabatier Au Carbone 10" Chef's Knife- A Great Knife
The Sabatier Au Carbone 10 - Inch Carbon Steel Chef's Knife, is lighter and sharper than most German made Stainless Steel knives. And because of it high carbon content, it requires more care in terms of frequent sharpening and immediate cleaning after use. However, you will find that it will take a sharp edge quickly and easily and the blade has bite and balance, making slicing, cutting and chopping easy and safe.
Care for this knife by washing it, by hand, immediately after use. Dry with a soft towel or cloth and then gently rub the blade with paper towel lightly dabbed in vegetable or olive oil. Rub away any excess oil on the blade with a clean paper towel before putting your knife away. This will help prevent, but not eliminate discoloration and prevent or eliminate rust. Prior to each use true up the edge on a steel. This will become one of the best knives you will ever use. NEVE PUT THIS KINFE IN THE DISHWASHER.

Sabatier's au Carbone chef's knife cuts best
I bought a Sabatier au Carbone 10" chef's knife on Amazon a few months ago, and it's become my favorite knife. I hadn't owned a carbon steel knife before. They take more care. I have to wash it and dry it immediately after each use. I don't let it sit for long on the cutting board while I do other things. It's a little more hassle, but it's become my favorite chef's knife because it makes the best cuts, is easy to sharpen, and stays sharp. I have three 10" forged stainless steel chef's knives. One by Sabatier and two by Wusthof (a Classic and a Grand Prix). I prefer the feel of the Wusthof Classic line, but the Sabatier au Carbone cuts better than any other knife I've own. Potatoes and apples slide off the blade of the au Carbone knife, but stick to the stainless steel knives. I've never been happy with how difficult it is to sharpen a stainless steel chef's knife and how quickly they lose their sharpness. The au Carbone knife is easy to sharpen, takes a very sharp edge, and I just touch it up on my diamond steel before I use it to keep it sharp. I haven't used a real sharpener on it since shortly after I got it. To sharpen my knives, I usually use a Chef's Choice Edge-Select 120 (grinder), but on the carbon steel, it seems to take off too much metal. Next time, I'll sharpen it on my Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (set of stones), another excellent tool for sharpening.

None Finer
I bought every Au Carbone knife I could find. They will take, and hold a better edge than anything else, especially any stainless steel. I have not compared them to the Japanese ceramic knives, but these Au Carbone are superior to all of the highly rated German and other SS knives.

Average Set (3.5 stars)
I'm not a huge fan of Sabatier kitchen tools, mostly because of this set. It makes a good set for someone just starting out who has no cookware, and needs a bunch of inexpensive stuff right away. This isn't a set that lasts for a long time.

The pots and pans are nicely sized and they are anodized aluminum with a nonstick coating, which is helpful. Makes cooking and cleaning up afterwards quick and easy. The handles are nice and stay pretty cool - good for me, since I tend to burn myself a lot in the kitchen! Just make sure you only use nonstick or nylon utensils with this set, the pans scrape and scratch VERY easily.

Another thing to be careful of with the pans - while the pans can go in the oven at over 700 degrees, the lids can't go in over 480 degrees!

While I think this is a decent set, there are many other sets out there with higher quality items in the same price range. If this one is on sale, it might be worth purchasing - but definitely shop around before committing!

What Are They Thinking?
I purchased these for the name and for the price. I thought, for 30 BUCKS, I can't go wrong, can I? Happily I have not. They worked VERY well, I purchased another set for my parents for Christmas and may also get a set for my sister and another for a friend for this holiday season. My only complaint the pans can go in the oven up to 700 degrees F put not the glass covers (only up to 400 degrees F. Otherwise, I simply love my set.

No Caomplaints thus far
I have had this set for a couple of weeks and so far so good. Nothing has stuck to them and they are a breeze to clean. I just have to remind myself not to use metal with them.
