Luxury unleashed !!! O' lah lah !!!
If you've got to have a serrated knife this be da one! I have the 8" chef's, the 8" bread and the 4" paring knife from this brand/line in my home block but NOT in my work bag...'cause other cooks STEAL 'em from me!
This is THE most attractive European knife line made...period, 'nuf said.
The quality, edge, finish and steel of this line of knives is unsurpassed. Wusthof and Henckels be forewarned.
Buy now with no regrets.
We slippin' dis pretty baby 5 mojo*z 'cause we be in love!!!

You gotta buy this knife!
I bought this knife several years ago (mine has a different handle but otherwise the same) as a starving college student. My mom started me on these knives and I won't use anything else. It is labelled as a tomato/bagel knife but it's more useful than that. It's fabulous on a wide variety of vegetables when you're not looking to mince. I use it to slice up bell peppers, half celery stalks, shred lettuce (and get that hard knot out of the base) and of course tomatoes. Mine is 4 years old and as sharp as the day I bought it.

Look sharp ...
Well, these knives start discoloring pretty much right away, as they are supposed to.

Who cares??? Unless you're a TV chef, pick up a couple of these babies. They hold an excellent edge and feel pretty good in the hand (but not great).

My Henckels are more comfortable, but I have been using the carbons almost exclusively since they landed on the step six weeks ago. (I also bought a medium chef's knife.) They feel like serious knives, more professional than most of the upscale blades I've tried. They're certainly easier to control, more finesse. Sharp is better.

Goto Blade
I love this knife. Extremely sharp, light, flexible. I've never had a better blade for doing intricate cuts like cutting the membrane out of a bell pepper, splitting a carrot, and it still makes me smile every time I slice a tomato! I used to goto my cleaver for all chopping and slicing, but nowadays this is my #1 goto blade.

First reviewer...
...must have made a mistake and ordered the wrong knife. He seems to have wanted a stainless knife, and this is not.

It's a wonderful stainable carbon steel knife that will take a razor sharp edge, and be in your family for generations...but it's going to get a nice "patina"

Really not impressed with this line
I bought a set of Sabatier Precision knives from Amazon and I have been less than impressed. First of all, like many, I didn't read the fine print. I thought I was getting French knives -- but these knives are made in China...:(

I only bought the tomato knife as it was listed as made in France -- and I hoped it would address some of my complaints below. Nope -- it is the equivalent of the steak knives. :(

The bread knife is OK, the chef knife is adequate, and the paring knife not bad. However the serrated steak knives are not particularly sharp and are too thick to slice things cleanly. I had a set of cheap Tramontina knives, which this set replaced, fortunately I kept a few of the Tramontina steak knives which are FAR better than the Sabatier steak knives. The bigger knives are better in the Sabatier set -- heavier -- but they don't maintain their edge particularly well and they get discoloration spots -- which is really annoying in "stainless steel".

Give me my Henckel chef's knife any day.

A good knife
Nice handy size with a blade shape that works really well on vegetables allowing a fine slice. Good sturdy handle that is comfortable and fits the hand well. The Precision line is actually made in China, so the quality was less than expected, but ok considering the price.

How do you sharpen?
This knife was included with the 14 piece set with block. I was quite happy with it. It cut a tomato with ease. I gave it four stars because I'm not sure how you sharpen it once it becomes dull. For now it's perfectly sharp. I guess I'll figure it out when necessary. Remember, it shouldn't go in the dishwasher. It doesn't need to be washed IMMEDIATELY but if you want a knife that you can throw in the dishwasher don't buy this knife.

Can't Cut Straight
If it were worth my time and effort I would return this knife. It won't cut anything straight. Must be a defect in some aspect of the design... to look at the knife it seems fine. No matter what you do... the knife curls to the left when you try to cut through something. I put it in my tool box for cutting cords, twine, etc.! Save your money.

missing in action
This item was included as a free gift when I ordered a set of Sabatier knives.....I did not receive it....I am very happy with the knife set...but would like to have this item or a substitute as advertised....thank you....pam johnson

It's OK!
This knife is OK... for the price I won't complain. The wide teeth make it difficult to start cutting some types of food.
