The finest paring knife you can aquireI have been an avid amateur cook for 25 years and have worked with a wide variety of kitchen tools during that period. Knives that I have utilized range from the "cheap but effective" to the finest products from Henckels. But the knives I use daily are the Globals', and the one that I cannot be without is this one. Although it is designated by the manufacturer as a Utility knife, it is simply the best paring knife I have ever used, and I've gone through a lot of them. Its razor sharpness is easily maintained, it has a perfect heft and balance, and it is exactly the "right" size and shape. It just feels great. Sorry if I sound so effusive -- I am not connected with the Global Corporation in any way -- but I would recommend this knife to any serious cook who has exacting standards in kitchenware.

More than good looksTo be honest, I didn't love it at first, it didn't feel right in my hand. But I've been using it for a while now, and to be honest, the more I use it the more I like it. Its very sharp, keeps its edge and seems relatively easy to sharpen. BTW I'm a professional chef and use my tools hard. I think I like this knife better than my Grand Prix's and am thinking of buying a full size chefs knife next to see how I like it.
This knife is one of my favorites now, even replacing my Whustoff off set serated as one that always finds its way into my hand.
Tomato killerI was looking for an "offset serrated knife" as mentioned by Bourdain, and this fits the bill. Outstanding veggie slicer and all-around food prep instrument. Even over-ripe tomatoes, the kind with a still tough skin and insides soft as pudding, are no match for it. Besides the small and handy size, the handle design means that the blade meets the cutting board before your knuckles. When it finally begins to dull, several swipes on a good steel will bring the edge back to rights.

Incredible Knife, Just Too Short for my TomatoI am a big fan of Global knives. They are wonderfully balanced, expertly sharp, and heaven to hold. This knife is no exception. I have quite a collection, myself. However, to call this knife a "Tomato Knife," at only 3inches long, is nuts in my book; that is, of course, unless you're talking about cherry tomatoes! The knife does glide through the skin effortlessly, as another has said, and the meat of the tomato is certainly not a challenge for the knife, either. But it's so short that the knife can get hung-up down in the tomato when you're trying to cut through. I wondered about this, but I purchased it anyway. It's great on avacados: if you use it to cut them in half the long way, and then use the back of the knife to cross-cut the insides of the halves, then turn the halves inside out, and scrape out the little squares of the avacado meat. But if you really want a great serrated knife that's long enough to cut through tomatoes with ease and room to spare, get the Global 6-inch Serrated Utility Knife. It's a must have, anyway.

Astounding!!!This is the most amazing knife I have ever owned! I ve purchased Henckles Twinstars, Sabatier;which is pure junk! Out of all the knives Ive owned none have sliced with the mastery of these knives. I enjoy the pleasure of slicing and dicing with such serene knives. I have since decided to sell my other non global knives and replace them with all Global this is quite a bold move as I consider myself thrifty with a nickle but the quality of this knife has beckon me fourth to a place where I must in fact splurge for the quality that i now know I do not want to live without. I simply cannot quantify how significant the difference in quality between these knives and Henckles Twinstar i really wasnt expecting to open a Pandora's box of spending. It actually happened quite accidently in my wife whom loves tomatos could not find a knife to cut them properly with and well the other person who reviewed this knife stated as bold fact it got the job done like no other. I must admit this knife is truly as silly as it might sound the "EXCALIBER of knives."

It's almost impossible to sharpen Global serrated knivesGlobal knives are great! and for the straight edged one's Global offers enough equipment to keep them nice and sharp. But for the serrated edged knives(and Global has such hard steel). It is almost impossible to resharpen them again. When ever I buy a a serrated knife I am going to stick with more affordable stamped knives by Henckels, Forschner, or Wusthof that don't cost a fortune if you can't resharpen them.
Good but unnecessaryI bought this knife along with a few other Global knives and ended up returning it. This is not to say that this is a bad knife but I found that it was unnecessary alongside the rest of the Global knives I purchased. The non-serrated knifes are so sharp that there were practicaly no instances where I needed to use this knife. I did end-up keeping the 8" serrated bread knife but as long as you have that one, you don't really need another serrated knives.
I like being able to sharpen my knives frequently and this isn't very easy to do with serrated knives. A special tool and technique is required and the whole process is very time consuming. In addition, make sure that you use a ceramic sharpener on all global knives. Its supposed to have a different grit that is better for them. Kyocera (ceramic knife manufacturer) makes one specifically for Global but they are quite expensive.
Great Universal knifeI really have enjoyed using this knife. It is a great universal knife. It is nice to have when one needs to cut through chicken skin for deboning. I also like the design of the handel.
