I LIKE this shaver
I had been buying $60 rechargeable or corded Braun shavers, and liking them. Then I tried this travel shaver for daily use (cost me $20) and love it. The 2AA batteries last much longer than Braun's estimate - 6 weeks for me. Also, my previous Brauns' foils would eventually be damaged and cost $12? $20? to replace. This shaver has an integrated foil guard which works much better - no damage yet.

Man's perspective
My review of this hair-plucker is from a different perspective than most: I'm a man. I have extremely hairy legs, but the rest of me is relatively hair free. I've never been really happy with the situation, but I never really felt like shaving the hair off... just seemed like too much of a hassle, plus, shaving legs is something my girlfriend does! But she doesn't like the hair on me either. So, I had a reason to finally get rid of it.

I'm not a wuss when it comes to pain. I hiked down a mountain with a dislocated shoulder one time. I have a lot of scars. So, I didn't think removing the hair hurt very much. It's just an annoying 'plucking' feeling.

It does remove the hair. But it leaves stubble, which I find annoying. I can feel the stubble with my hand, but the thing won't pull those hairs out, no matter how much I move it over the area. I expected it to get all the hair.

So, I'm not entirely happy. It's possible that I'm just not using it in the correct way, even though I read the direction booklet. Buy this thing only if you have a high pain threshold.

Threw out the razor!
As someone who had never waxed or epilated I was a bit leary of trying this device, but am very glad I did. I'll never shave again! It was quite uncomfortable and a bit painful the first time I used it [come on, it pulls your body hair out by the roots...] but since then it has been virtually pain free. The best reward of using this product is not having to bother with hair removal very often -- I can't say exactly how long the overall effect lasts, but I usually do touch-ups once a week on those hairs that were not long enough to pull the week before and it doesn't take but about 15-20 minutes to to a "whole body" once over. I use it on my legs, underarms and bikini line all with equal success. The only drawbacks that I have discovered are occasional problems with ingrown hairs (which has mostly been solved with the added use of a loofah) and the fact that my legs are never as smooth as when I shaved due to some hairs not being long enough to catch at the time of epilation. This has gotten better with repeated use (it appears as if less hair grows back between each use and it grows back soft), but it's still not quite smooth to the touch. However, all in all I consider this a great product that I'm really glad I took the chance on trying.

Great Product!!
This is really a great product! It removes hairs so quickly and efficiently that you'll give up shaving in seconds. It hurts only the first time. After that you'll even start epilating your underarms or more gentle areas.
Also, AMAZON.COM Customer Service is awesome! You get what you asked for. No problem for replacement if anything goes wrong.

Great! Won't need those rollers after all!
I've tried just about everything at one time or another. Waxing was definitely the most long-lasting (and got easier with practice), but it's sooooo messy. As for shaving - who wants to do that every day or so! But the Epilady years ago had been a bad enough experience that I was really leery of trying this one. Lately, though, the hair on my legs was getting to the point where I either tried starting a new fashion with hot rollers or took a gamble that epilation had gone high tech - in a good way.

One of best gambles I ever made! Having the shaver head as well is great, too. Used it to trim down the thicket and then tried the epilator - excellent results and I can't really call it painful, more a prickly feeling. Exfoliating first is probably a good idea, but not critical.

I give this 4-stars rather than 5 only because a cordless version would be perfect.

Best available
Although all epilators could stand improvement, this one is the best I've used by far. It removes more hair with far fewer passes than other (often more expensive) brands.

Great product!!! Exfoliate first, and you have a home salon
I have used this product and another one sold by shaper image, and this one is much better:
1. If you shower and use a loofa or some type of exfoliation to the area prior to use,it will catch the hair faster. you must prep the area ie; remove the dead skin on the area.

2. To prevent ingrown hairs, you need to remove your dead skin by exfoliating occassionally say twice a week in the shower. it not only helps prevent ingrown hairs but also makes your skin feel nice and soft.

3. After using this machine, apply a hypoallergic gentle skin creme to your legs, and they look great!

4. It's true that your hair will grow back lesser after repeated use. In some areas I have no hair growth.

5. It works great on facial hair provided once again that you remove all facial makeup and wash with a exfoliating spounge or small loofa.

6. Make sure you clean the shaver during the hair removal process as after a few minutes hair can accumulate really fast. It's better to use it when your hair is at least 1/8" long.

7. Kiss shaver burn, and irratation goodbye with this wonderful razor. I used to get bikini area irritation using disposable razors , and waxing really hurt and caused ingrown hairs if I didnt exfoliate 2-3X weekly to remove dead skin and let knew hair growth break thru the skin. The unit has a built in recharger so you are not stuck with a cord when removing the hair. Recharges great and hold recharge.

8. Lastly, if you think about it,,,,,if you use it twice it will pay for 2 salon vistits for legs, bikini and underarm removal to say the least. It's great for travel due to it's compact size. Well worth the investment and you have the freedom to do it at home rather than a salon appt. So don't procastinate, buy it and see for yourself what your are missing out on.

Not Braun like
Braun is known for the innovation, technology, and design of its product. I read an article years ago that told a story of how Braun engineers tried to perfect every one of its products, one big honcho said "if it's a Braun, it must meet all of our standards". Well, those standards must have changed over the years. I bought this as an emergency replacement while I'm getting my 6525 fixed, what a difference. It looks and feels flimsy, and it is noisy when you turn it on. It doesn't shave close, and the spring-loaded floating cutter is almost totally useless.

So save yourself some aggravation, don't buy it.

Close shave, takes time
This is the first electric shaver I've used, so I can't compare it to others...but I can compare it to regular razors. I've used this model for about a year, and it's sold me on using electic razors over regular razors (which I used for over 30 years).

The shave is very smooth, but it takes a long time on my beard. I have to go over the same spots many times. It takes me about 15 minutes to really do a good job. I don't know if a rotary, or higher-priced foil, razor would speed this up. Maybe my beard is heavier than most, or I'm too picky, or I need a heavier-duty shaver (this one seems rather light-weight). Or, for all I know, it takes everyone 15 minutes to shave with an electric razor. I just don't know. But once I'm done, my face and neck are quite smooth.

The rechargable battery lasts a long time, and it recharges very quickly. The smaller size of the shaver is handy. I agree that the trimmer is useless, but I don't really need it anyway (I use a smaller hair trimmer for that).

I'll search for one that works quicker, but I'm quite glad someone gave this to me last Christmas so that I could investigate using electric razors. Quite happy with it.

Works for me
I don't know why so many people have panned this shaver. I've used several electric shavers before and this one is the best i've used to date. The shaver doesn't pinch you when shaving, keeps a charge for a while, and is very handy to have on the drive into work when I'm pressed for time.
I haven't used a shaver yet that compares to the old fashioned razor blade and shaving cream, so forget that comparison. Among electric shavers I think it's very good. 4 stars.

The Worst Shaver I've Ever Used!!!
I think the fellow that said this shaver is "a piece of junk" was way too kind. The Braun 3612 requires you to go over and over and over the same area in order to get, at best, a still stubbly shave. I've owned at least 5 older Braun models (all excellent!) but this one is a joke! I even replaced the foil and cutter block after about 5 uses and it's no better. The 3612 razor is a waste of MONEY and your time... unless you have 20 minutes to kill irritating your face with this "shaver" each morning.

Best if you don't need the beard trimmer
I think I'm secretly hoping it breaks.

As in the case of my walkman,it's amazing how such a magnificent piece of electronic engineering can be rendered so user-unfriendly by poor interface design.

This shaver is good enough to keep once you're paid for it, not bad enough to justify buying a new one, but I'm very disappointed.

The beard trimmer projects out less than half an inch, about an inch down from the top, which makes it cumbersome at best, as you practically have to hold the side of the whole razor against your face and barely see what you're doing. (The last Braun I owned had one that projected a full inch, near the top, allowing you to direct the cut and still see what hairs you're cutting)

On the plus side, it is extremely rugged (so it's unlikely to break anytime soon, I'm afraid), well shaped for use, and recharges superbly. The so-called cutter is useless, but the main foil section works beautifully, so if you don't need a quality beard trimmer (as I do) then it's a good value. And it's at a pretty good price...

Seems okay, I guess
I received this shaver about a month ago as a gift. This is the first electric shaver I have owned, so I can't really compare it to any others. The overall shave is okay, but the 3612 does have a few problems. The floating cutter is almost completely useless, as is the trimmer. I use the foil by itself, and it gives a fairly smooth shave, although I have to go over my face several times to achieve this. As i said, overall it seems like a decent shaver, but I can see myself purchasing a sturdier, more powerful model in the future.
