Too bad it's discontinued...
Worth every penny....I was unfortunately born a male...one with a strong distaste for body hair, and a love for smooth legs. My desire to remove said hair was met with fairly frustrating results....but now i've found my answer. While admittedly using the epilator isn't completely pleasant, unfortunately some pain is involved, the ease and quickness involved totally makes up for it. Especially if you have tried waxing. There is no mess, and it can be done anywhere at anytime....this product eliminates the need to ever shave your legs, or other areas, again.....for once technology actually solves a problem, rather then creating new ones.
I would suggest this for anyone tired of shaving...waxing.....or hair removal creams...etc.......the cost is more then made up for over by it's effectiveness, and truly pays for itself....the noise is minimal, and the pain is easily tolerable...
enjoy.

Works well - just get over the intitial shock...I recommend it to someone who does waxing today. It is much less expensive that that and you are already used to the initial shock/pain.
I can do some private areas, arm pits, & legs.
It is a good investment even if it only saves you from 2 or 3 whole leg and bikini waxings!
Love my little braun epilYou should use a loofah or something similar too -- it helps guard against ingrown hairs.

Man's perspectiveI'm not a wuss when it comes to pain. I hiked down a mountain with a dislocated shoulder one time. I have a lot of scars. So, I didn't think removing the hair hurt very much. It's just an annoying 'plucking' feeling.
It does remove the hair. But it leaves stubble, which I find annoying. I can feel the stubble with my hand, but the thing won't pull those hairs out, no matter how much I move it over the area. I expected it to get all the hair.
So, I'm not entirely happy. It's possible that I'm just not using it in the correct way, even though I read the direction booklet. Buy this thing only if you have a high pain threshold.

Don't need the gizmo - found something that works w/o oneFor the Braun - well built and close shave, but one star off for the decorative/size aspect, second star off for the addtional maintenance cost and noise (which apparently increases with time).
The third shaver was a differnt story - Mr. Bond's Norelco 8894XL Spectra. The battery died at the end of the second shave! Dead - period! I know two days is not much, and that I am supposed to wait to two weeks for conclusions (what is the hair 'brain' science behind this anyway?). However, it worked poorly for me from the beginning.
The best electric shaver on the face of the earth!1. The shave is very close and gentle.
2. There are two foil areas with a trimmer area in between for the longer hairs. This is similar to Remington's "Intercept" design but Remington's "Intercept" shavers do not even approach the Braun's shave quality. It seems like Braun places the trimmer a little higher (closer to the skin) and the thin foils of the Braun really make a difference.
3. The mustache area and sideburns are accurately and quickly handled by this foil razor, in contrast to all rotary systems.
4. The trimmer is strong and sturdy, and does a great job.
5. The shaver is fairly quiet (although the base's automatic cleaning system is not).
6. The 40 minute battery life lasts me a little over a week, and the system automatically monitors your charging behavior and conditions the battery after 6 months if you tend to recharge prematurely.
7. The cleaning/charging stand is fantastic. If you place the shaver in the stand, the default setting is "clean" (includes lubrication). You can also easily select "charge" or "charge and clean". An indicator light tells you when the cleaning solution needs replacing. The ease-of-use and effectiveness of this cleaning system is outstanding, and I use it everyday. It's nice to start the day with a clean, lubricated shaver.
8. The remaining battery time display is extremely accurate. When it says you have 5 minutes left, you really have only 5 minutes left. When it gets to "empty" the shaver starts to slow down and stop. This degree of accuracy is one trait I've never found in any other electric shaver. The Remington I refer to below was very inaccurate, and the Norelco also referred to below had many minutes left after it said "zero" minutes left.
9. The foil and blades need to be replaced after 18 mos, which is longer than other shaver's I've used (12 mos). Some users report having to replace the foil and blades earlier, however.
There are only 3 minor downsides to this shaver.
1. One is the recurring cost of the cleaning solution cartridges, each which needs to be replaced after about 50 cleanings. Personally, I find this cost acceptable because the automatic cleaning is such a nice feature. If you're concerned about the cost, you don't have to clean the shaver everyday, and then the cartridges will last longer. Even if you don't use the cartridge, it will eventually need replacement because there is a slow rate of evaporation of the solution.
2. A second downside is the elapsed time display, which resets to zero within a few seconds of turning the shaver off. It would be better if it didn't reset right away when the shaver is off, because I sometimes turn off the shaver during the shaving process. This is a minor quibble.
3. The third is the display is not as nice as it could be, although it is accurate and does everything you need. Witness Norelco's polymer display, which is gorgeous.
Comparison with other shavers:
Remington TCT system
For many years I was a Remington foil electric shaver man, for no good reason except I got a Remington when I was a teenager and stuck with the brand. In retrospect, my experience with Remington shavers suggests that they are relatively loud, do not shave as close as other electric shavers, employ "gimmicks" that don't make a lot of functional sense, and have a horribly inaccurate LCD timer (on the best TCT model). About 6 months ago my Remington TCT died, and I decided to try a different brand. I considered this Braun 7680 Syncro shaver and the Norelco 8894XL "James Bond" rotary shaver. I originally bought the latter.
Norelco 8894XL "James Bond"
I really wanted to like the Norelco. The polymer display was gorgeous, the design of the shaver attractive, the feel was one of quality, the battery life amazing, and the timer accurate. A real difference from Remington. But I bought it for the shave, and that's where I had problems.
In summary, rotary shavers are not very good at shaving the mustache area, nor the sideburns. I found doing the mustache area took me a minute or two longer than it should have, and I tried numerous techniques I found on the web for shaving this area with a rotary shaver. When I was in a rush, I found this extra time unacceptable. The Norelco's pop-up trimmer was flimsy and not very effective. I also found the closeness of the shave with the Norelco was not as close or smooth as the Braun, and the Norelco caused cuts more often, particularly when I applied a little too much pressure.
However, most problematic for me was the unsightly neck irritation the Norelco produced, which was pronounced even on the "gentlest" setting and lasted the full 12 weeks I used the razor. I found William's Lectric Shaver Gel helped somewhat with the irritation (add another minute or two), but when I contacted Norelco about it, they said they don't recommend using any preshave lotion because it can shorten the life of the blades and cutters. I contacted the maker of the shaver gel, and they confirmed this. After considering the inherent inaccuracy and inefficiency of the rotary blade system, the neck irritation, and the need to use a contraindicated preshave lotion to partially circumvent it, I reluctantly gave up on the Norelco and bought the Braun. I am so glad I did. Within a couple of days of using the Braun, my Norelco rotary shaver-induced neck irritation resolved completely.
What a lifestyle change!NOT ANYMORE!!!! The 7680 has changed that completely. I shave daily with no irritation, and it only takes 4 - 7 minutes to do so. I waited a month before writting this review because the instructions tell you that it takes a few weeks for your beard to get adjusted to the electric shaver. This is true, at first I thought that I wasn't going to like it, but since it was a Father's Day gift, I was somewhat obligated to use it for a while. I sure am glad I did.
I would agree that the shaver shaves about 98% as close as the Mach 3, but what I like best about my 7680 is that I don't go more than a day without shaving anymore, sometimes I even shave in the morning and touch it up in the evening just because it is so quick and easy.
I can only compare this to a manual shaver, because it is all I have used, but I definitely give it a double thumbs up!!! Great Razor.

Great! Won't need those rollers after all!One of best gambles I ever made! Having the shaver head as well is great, too. Used it to trim down the thicket and then tried the epilator - excellent results and I can't really call it painful, more a prickly feeling. Exfoliating first is probably a good idea, but not critical.
I give this 4-stars rather than 5 only because a cordless version would be perfect.

Great product!!! Exfoliate first, and you have a home salon1. If you shower and use a loofa or some type of exfoliation to the area prior to use,it will catch the hair faster. you must prep the area ie; remove the dead skin on the area.
2. To prevent ingrown hairs, you need to remove your dead skin by exfoliating occassionally say twice a week in the shower. it not only helps prevent ingrown hairs but also makes your skin feel nice and soft.
3. After using this machine, apply a hypoallergic gentle skin creme to your legs, and they look great!
4. It's true that your hair will grow back lesser after repeated use. In some areas I have no hair growth.
5. It works great on facial hair provided once again that you remove all facial makeup and wash with a exfoliating spounge or small loofa.
6. Make sure you clean the shaver during the hair removal process as after a few minutes hair can accumulate really fast. It's better to use it when your hair is at least 1/8" long.
7. Kiss shaver burn, and irratation goodbye with this wonderful razor. I used to get bikini area irritation using disposable razors , and waxing really hurt and caused ingrown hairs if I didnt exfoliate 2-3X weekly to remove dead skin and let knew hair growth break thru the skin. The unit has a built in recharger so you are not stuck with a cord when removing the hair. Recharges great and hold recharge.
8. Lastly, if you think about it,,,,,if you use it twice it will pay for 2 salon vistits for legs, bikini and underarm removal to say the least. It's great for travel due to it's compact size. Well worth the investment and you have the freedom to do it at home rather than a salon appt. So don't procastinate, buy it and see for yourself what your are missing out on.

I feel pretty and witty and wise...
Oh I suppose you know the rest of the lyrics. Just making a point about this wonderful product.
I have been waxing, plucking, checking for stray chin hairs and getting bristled legs for a half century. Nothing compares to the hassle free couple weeks I've just had since this great little epilator came into my life.
My first five days without having bristles were celebratory. What fun! I kept asking friends to feel my legs so I could share the joy. I also have used this product on my tiresome chin hairs that have plagued me for longer than I care to remember. I just take a minute and all my worries of having missed a stray hair are history. Hooray!
There is a sting associated with using this system but not unmanagble. It's also a good idea to pull your skin taut when you are trying to epilate...shall we say...any curves that could stand to be a little tighter. It takes a bit of time to get all the hairs off...but the payoff is NO SHAVING FOR OVER A WEEK! Good trade off in my book.
The silver mesh bag is handy as well as 'girly', making it a great addition to my beauty regime. The razor module that is included is something I have chosen to use under my arms. (Epilating the arm pits wasn't my favorite.) Small consolation for such a great gadget.
If you are sick and tired of plucking...getting out the reading glasses or a bright light to see where those stray hairs are, or stripping your legs with gooey wax, give the Braun Silk-Epil Eversoft System a try.
My satan PJ'S just glide over my legs now!
