I read about this purifier in Consumer Reports (it was one of the top 3 most highly rated) and have not been disappointed with it. The air in my apartment is noticeably more clear, and the added amount of circulation is really nice. Heat from the heating registers is now more quickly dispersed because of this unit. The remote control, although a nice touch, has to have line-of-sight with the device which is sometimes quite inconvenient. This unit has little lights on the front that tell you the filter status as well. Nice touch. On the highest (of four) settings, it's about as loud as an in-window air conditioner, on the lowest, it's almost inaudible. As for room size ratings, you can get one rated lower/smaller but it will just take a lot longer to filter. They don't stick you on the filters either; they last about 6 months (give or take) and cost about [$$$] total to replace. One of the best purchases I've made this year.

The Harmony Air Purifier has turned out to be a great little workhorse of a machine! I have dogs and this machine does a great job of removing their dust, hair and dander from the air. The only problem I have is the noise. The Harmony is not loud, but it is noticeable. Filter replacement is easy. Filter costs can add up. The recommended replacement on the Hepa filter was 12-18mos, but I needed to replace after 8 months of hard use. Overall I reccomend it. Good Quality, Great Price.

I bought the Holmes HAP625 a month ago from Amazon and love it. It's easy to move around from room to room. At night I left it on "low" between 2 bedrooms. In the morning, my severe allergies -stuffed nose and itchy eyes disappeared. The air flows upward, so it doesn't hit your face if you are sleeping. It fits nicely with my house decor. I would highly recommend this purifier to anyone with severe allergies. California 3/4/04

This was rated one of the top air purifier and it didn't disappointed me at all. I would recommend this if you are looking to spend around 200 or below. I am planning on buying another one for my parents.

I spent a lot of time in the store looking over humidifiers, and finally decided on the Holmes. I like the design and features. The good point is it works very well at humidifying a small room. The bad is that it is VERY noisy. There's no way you could have it on high - it sounds like a jet engine. On low it is still quite loud. I have it in my son's room, and the white noise actually helps him sleep, but I would never be able to have it in my own room. If the noise isn't an issue, then this is a great humidifier, but I believe most people would prefer a quieter unit.

I have had this unit for one week. I am returning it tomorrow because it is ridiculously loud. Forget sleeping--I can barely hear the TV over it! If noise is not an issue, then this item might still be a good deal for you. I paid $24.99, which I thought was a good price for it. The positives are that it holds 2.5 gallons, instead of the usual 2 gallons in this price range, and it has a built-in moniter to let you know when it's time to change the filter. It says it can run for 24 hours without having to refill the water. I did not test this aspect, as I only run it while I sleep (or at least that's my goal). Another negative is that it has a sticker attached that says to call an 800 number before using. Thinking it might be a safety issue, I called. It automatically records the number--with registered name--and address you call from and gives you a voice response sales pitch. That ticked me off. I just bought a Honeywell warm mist unit today. Hopefully that will be better for me!

We bought this model about a month ago .... We run it each night for a little over eight hours. It kept the room very moist for the first week.

After one week, it started to leak, but continued to humidify to a lesser extent than the first week. It would leak about 1-1.5 inches of water into the container we placed it in. The container is about 2'x3', so that's a lot of water. I would definitely recommend that you place this unit in a plastic container that can collect any leaking water! The leakage doesn't appear to be consistent -- some nights it will leak, other nights it won't -- I haven't seen any correlation.

After two weeks, the filter needed to be replaced and stopped humidifying completely. We replaced the filter the third week and it now humidifies the air very well, but continues to leak.

The unit itself is nifty, the controls are easy to understand and use. It's not too loud. Filling the unit isn't very tricky (if you don't factor in dumping leaked water every morning!), and replacing the filter is simple. However, due to the constant leakage and frequent filter replacement, I would not recommend this product. We are looking to purchase a new humidifier to replace this. .....

I ordered this item from Amazon on November 27, 2003, after stringing me along with several delay notices I still have not received the humidifier. Maybe this is because it has been discontinued? There's nothing on the Holmes website about this model, but there's a comparable model for only $50 (4-gallon cool mist w/ Accuset Plus). Even if you have to pay shipping, that's still a better deal than what Amazon is offering. If I had chosen to continue to wait for this product from Amazon, I would have WAITED 4 MONTHS TO RECEIVE THIS PRODUCT!!!

I've owned this humidifier for about two months now. The operation is relatively easy to learn and the design is very user friendly. In my opinion this humidifier does everything it was designed to do. Even the filter replacement gauge is helpful. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out when to change a filter. My only complaint is that my particular humidifier is LOUD. Even on the lowest setting it becomes a little annoying if listening to the stereo or watching a movie. Forget about it on high, you might think you had an industrial room fan instead. Of course the plus side to the noise is that it is a perfect white noise for going to sleep to, if it doesn't bug you to throw it out first. I give this product three stars out of five for doing what its supposed to do.

This machine is noisy and the filters? I can't find them anywhere! If I buy them online, they cost an arm and a leg! So, I've had this thing for about 2 years now, and since the filter only lasted for about a month, it's just been sitting there, collecting dust! So, I guess it's collecting dust in one aspect! In my opinion, it's just not a good buy. I'm going to try one of those Ionic Breeze purifiers now, wish me luck!

I bought this product for a fan sound when I sleep since I like that sound for sleeping. If you expect it to really clean anything, guess again. It is a small noise maker only and does not do what it is supposed to do, but in all fairness, virtually no aircleaners at any price really clean the air of dust, etc. I got in on an Amazon.com special about a year ago and since the price was so low, it has been an excellent investment for my purposes.

If you have to replace the filter so often , can we ssume that is because the filter is dirty? Doesn't that mean it is removing some stuff from the air --which is what you want it to do???

Plastic is low quality, water tank cap broke after relatively short use, had to replace with something more sturdy. Also, water tank is enough for only one night in "low" setting and less than that in "high". The medicine cup is messy and not useful. Better to spend a bit more and get a decent humidifier if you plan to use this more than a few months.

Easy to use product but didn't last very long.
We worked it hard using it every day for almost a year until it died. It was fairly easy to clean unless you let it go too long between cleanings. Once the mineral deposits on the heater head go thick it was hell to chip them off. The medicine cup/arometherapy is a joke. More mess than it is worth, IMNHO. The unit is easy to fill and overall has a clean easy-to-use design, though the water resevoir's handle is not very sturdy and will break if you aren't careful with it. I'm hoping to find something a little more solid for the replacement.

I believe it says: "Whisper Quiet" on the box. I guess it's "whisper quiet" when I'm three rooms over in the Kitchen with the dishwasher running! Even on the low setting, this humidifier is unbearably loud!

This humidifier is too loud. I cannot bear it. The filters are hard find, too, which is how I am rationalizing replacing this horrible machine.

I loved this humidifier until I broke the tank while filling it. It was perfect for my baby's room -- it provided a lot of moisture in his room (almost tropical) and in the summer, I took the tank off and removed the filter and used the fan noise for his naps (great white noise). I am going to buy another one immediately. If you need to add humidity to a room and like white noise this one is for you -- just make sure you are holding it securely when filling the tank.
