One Size Fits All
Coolest thing about these, they fit ANY Vornado Humidifier! That takes all the worry away about figuring out the right size/type of replacement wick to get. So easy!

Great wicks
Yep, hard to review something like this. These are the genuine Vornaodo replacement wicks. Order several and get free shipping. YOu need to replace these often in the humidifying season, so stock up. Best price around.

Vornado Humidifier Wicks
One thing that stands out is that instead of the dozens of filters, wicks etc that other companies have to fit their products. Vornado humidifiers ALL take these wicks! Making sure that the consumer gets the right ones and EASILY is a great idea! These are made in the US.
If ordering from Amazon, I do find it to be a good idea to watch the prices for this item on Amazon since they fluctuate up to $4.00 difference depending on when you look. What's up with that? If you're buying several packages at a time, that really adds up!

THE DIFFERENCE IS AMAZING!
I purchased this humidifier to relieve some of the snap-crackle-pop that is generated in a house that has a heater running all winter. We couldn't touch our pets without static shock, the 4-legged critters were getting dander, the human critters were getting dry skin and stuffy noses...all common problems during winter in Alaska. Having tried several different models of humidifiers over the years, I am confident to recommend this Vornado.

The moisture is somewhat "soft"...no drenching and soaking everything around it, no mold. The highest setting is a bit loud...we use it only to rapidly "up" the level of moisture and then turn it to medium until bedtime. On low, this thing is incredibly quiet. I am baffled by the reviews complaining of the glug-glug noise. Unless you are a very light sleeper, this brief sound is trivial...(hardly like "drums in the bedroom" in my opinion) but not everyone has the same level of noise tolerance, I suppose. In this quiet home (just 2 adults and some non-talking pets) it goes unnoticed.

The unit is very easy to fill. I place the bottles in the sink and fill them straight from the faucet. The top of the unit lifts right off, which makes it easy to clean.

It seems that we are having to change the wicks every 4 weeks or so. Amazon.com sells them cheaper than any other place I've found and it is advisable to keep several packs on hand (the unit uses 2 wicks at a time.) The inconvenience of replacing the wicks would be my biggest "grumble"...but it's well worth it to have fewer sinus headaches and the benefit of moisture in dry, heated indoor air.

It's the MIG-25 jet fighter of humidifiers...
That is to say - it's really high performance, very simply built, and has a few rough edges.
PERFORMANCE: this thing pretty much humidifies our entire 2BD/2BTH 1450 sqr. ft. apartment, although the back room never gets above 40% (we keep that door closed a lot though). It's huge 4.5 gallon tanks mean that that even with steam heat drying out the air continuously, I only need to fill the tanks once a day. The large, dual wicks mean that a LOT of air can get moisturized quickly, and the large diameter fan is fairly quiet and very effective.
BUILD: 4 parts - 2 tanks, one "oil pan" base to hold the filters, and the top fan/control unit. This makes the unit VERY easy to clean - take off the fan/control unit, and everything else can get a water and white vinegar soak.
ROUGH EDGES: This unit relies upon vacuum pressure in the tanks to regulate the amount of water admitted - no complicated valves. That leads to "GLUG GLUG GLUG" when the water in the base falls - and it is loud enough to bother most sleepers. And there are very basic, simple controls. No readouts, no remote humidity sensors...

But WHO CARES? This unit works so well that most people don't have to place it in the bedroom - simply put it in the living room or hall, and it will put out enough moisture that in 1 - 2 days the entire space will be humid. I've tested this two ways: 1) my children stopped coughing from dry air, and 2) I own a humistat that measures the relative humidity. Both indications tell me that it works over a large enough area, and all I did is place it in the front hall.

SUMMARY - a great large area humidifier with a few rough edges. Place it out of the bedroom, let the air circulate by just keeping the doors open, and it's fantastic.

Best Humidifier We've Ever Had!!
We've had ours for about 3 months. It's quiet, clean, easy to fill, and very efficient. It can be filled in the kitchen sink in less than 2 minutes. No additives required. It's output is about 2 gallons a day and I haven't heard my wife complain at all about those little dry-skin cracks she used to get on her fingers. If the so-called glug-glug noise really bothers you, you need a white noise machine for sleeping.

Very Loud Knocking ...not gurgling sound
Having read all the previous reviews on this humidifier I decided to disregard the comments about disturbing sounds from the humidifier. I am sorry I did. The tank construction is so flimsy that when water is released into the wick tank (more than once an hour (depends on the amount of humidification)a very LOUD knocking sound (5-7 bangs at a time)will disturb your sleep. I thought the next door neighbor was doing construction next door, I couldnt believe this was actually coming from the humidifier. Seriously, I was only one step away from going over there and waking them up at 230 am. I wish I had bought the ultrasonic types. If you have hard water..prepare to clean the wicks often as they absorb them, discolor and turn hard. I can't complain about the basic function..the unit humidifies well but even after almost a month I cannot get used to hearing the banging sounds.

Absolutely Fabulous!
After my sonic humidifier broke, I decided to read online reviews to check out the best of the humidifier bunch. This Vornado really is a champ. Not only does it humidify at a spectacular rate, it's completely lazy person friendly (no scrubbing) and replacement filters are inexpensive and easy to find. I live in a Boston apartment with the heat jacked up to something like 90 degrees, and as soon as I plugged this baby in, the difference was enormous. The engineering behind this model is really cool: the design makes it easy to refill, take apart, and move (and you MUST take it apart if you want to move it, which is really easy and should have been self-evident to that previous reviewer).

Regarding the "glug" sound or loud knocking noise: I consider myself a very light sleeper (my cat has trained me well) and I have used this humidifier in my bedroom at full speed for months without disturbance. Yes, I have heard the bubbling, but it doesn't bother me at all. Perhaps other reviewers (lighter sleepers than me) ought to move their humidifiers into their living rooms. Also, I was startled to read reviewers here complain about leaking. I am one of the clumsiest people you could ever hope to meet, and have never had a problem with this unit leaking. Or with refilling the water jugs--that's one of the greatest things about the design. For those people whose units leak, you should probably call Vornado--it's likely that your water jugs have small holes, causing them to lose their equilibrium.

Overall, I cannot recommend this item enough. My skin is all glowy, I sleep like a rockstar, and my sinuses thank me daily. Happy shopping!

As Per Instructions
I've had this humidifier for just over a week, and it has made a huge difference to the apartment, not to mention my extremely dry skin.

I was amazed to see reviews of this product complaining about leakage, as checking for leaks is covered in STEP 1 of the instruction booklet. The manufacturers explicitly state that before using the product, leaks in the base and tanks should be checked for, and they give clear instructions as to how to accomplish this; they also guarantee free replacement in case of any faults.

Should you be literate and have enough basic common sense to read the instructions, you may well find this humidifier to be a wondrous thing.

* No "dewing" effect, as it is an evaporative machine that shuts off when the required level of humidity is reached
* Effective evaporation
* Large tank capacity means you can leave it on high for over 24 hours before refilling
* Quiet operation.

When on "low", it is barely audible. At "medium" or "high", it acts as white noise. As a lifelong insomniac and light sleeper, I routinely use earplugs of the type that muffle sound but do not block it out (i.e. I can hear a loud whisper in the room). The humidifier has not bothered me. It does make a gurgling sound as the water level hits a point where an air-bubble enters the tank and forces more water out. This is not a very loud or unpleasant sound. A loud "knocking" described by a couple of other reviewers has not occurred with my humidifier, which has been running on "high" almost continuously just over a week; given the manufacturer's instructions, I would suggest that such noises, if genuinely loud and bothersome, be reported to the company in case the unit is faulty.

This is, in my humble opinion, a great humidifier for anyone who can read instructions and use a modicum of common sense.

Odd that this has been so well reviewed...
But I used this Vicks Humidifier model only once and returned it. First, there something rattling around in the base that clearly should not have been there. More importantly, after only one night, there was crusty brown gunk on the inner unit (even if my water is chock full of minerals, should this happen after only one use?), and aside from the water tank, it was not easy to clean. Some humidifer companies suggest cleaning weekly, but this one would require cleaning after each use.

I continue to search for a good, table top humidifier.

Very Good Product
I am a sensitive sleeper, so noise is important to me. This vaporizer/humidifier is very quiet, does a good job of putting moisture in the air and is eas to clean when occasionally needed. The warm mist is not hot enough to burn which was a concern of mine with two small children. It's easy to operate and refill too. I'd highly recommend this product. Only drawback is it doesn't hold enough water - but this model is not intended to so I didn't count it against the product.

really works great so far
I bought this warm mist humidifier after owning a vaporizer and a cool mist humidifier. The vaporizer was fine except that it was too hot and burned my son's arm, so i needed something else. The cool mist humidifier (different company) broke very fast besides for the expense of changing filters.
This humidifier is great.
1) The warmth is very soothing but not too hot-it won't burn you if you put your hand over the mist.
2) It never leaks onto the floor or gets the surrounding furniture wet (the other one did all the time).
3) It is whisper quiet. You can hardly hear the very soft humming sound even when right near it even on high.
4) It gives out a nice amount of humidity even on the low setting.
5) It is very simple to clean.
6) It is very light and easy to fill up.
On the low setting the water lasts well over 12 hours-I haven't timed exactly how long. On high it goes for about a little over 11 hours. The auto shut-off works very nicely.
I really think this product is great so far. I've paid more for it at a local store and still think it's worth it. The Amazon price is really great which makes it a great buy.

Would be great but one big flaw
I bought this unit to help humidify my bedroom. Normal operation is nice and quiet and yet still seems to dump a good amount of water into the room.

The way the unit stores the water is in a big bottle on the side. The bottle feeds into the base of the unit and there is enough water in the bottom of the unit to keep the entire bottle from dumping out all at once. This provides a convenient way for you to refill the humidifier.

HOWEVER, when the water level drops enough that water is fed from the bottle there is a LOUD burbling sound as air replaces the water in the tank. This sound is loud enough to wake me from a sound sleep.

Good but not quiet
I bought two of these because the reviewers here gave it good marks and downplayed the noise it made. This product is easy to assemble and clean. Filling the water chamber is very easy compared to other humidifiers I have used. To me it is the best feature. My main gripe is with the noise it makes. First of all, the fan is not as quiet as I had hoped. There are three fan speeds, but the lowest speed is the only one that has an acceptable sound level at night. The higher two are only useful during the day when it can be drowned out by other household noises. To make matters worse, every 2 hours or so, this humidifier makes a series of loud GULPs as the water from the tank drains into the humidifier base. Based on the reviews I read here, I didn't think it would be a problem because I am a heavy sleeper, so I was suprised that the GULPing noise wakes me up at night.

This is a fine product for the daytime, but for nighttime/sleeptime, I wish I had purchased something else.

Good, but noisy
I researched for a long time before I purchased a humidifier for our bedroom. I chose the Vornado for its good reviews and well-known name. While the Vornado is quiet while spewing out the cool mist, it makes an INCREDIBLY LOUD KNOCKING SOUND many times (at least 4) during the average 8-hour night while the water gulps down from the water chamber into the body of the humidifier. IF YOU ARE a deep sleeper, or not bothered by loud knocking sounds, then this is the perfect humidifier for you. However, if you are a light sleeper, like I am, keep searching or wear ear plugs. I am literally woken up in my sleep by the knocking/gulping sound; my husband, who is a very sound sleeper, was awaken one night by the sound, got out of bed, and went to the door half asleep thinking that one of our children were knocking on it. On a positive note, the water chamber is easy to fill and replace, as are the wicks. All parts are very easy to clean. And it does "humidify" the room quite nicely. It is just very loud and I would not buy another Vornado for that reason alone.
