Great Vacuum!
Just bought it about a month ago and it is working great. Cleans the cat hairs in one pass and is easily adjustable. When you push the handle upright the beaters turn off, very nice feature, especially for using the attachments, like cleaning stairs! (need the long hose though) This is the first self propelled vacuum we've had, and I like it. When cleaning bare floors, the beater rolls along the floor, sometimes pushing dirt away, and you can't use the self propelled on bare floors either. However, it does a decent job on bare floors. The powered hand tool worked great, for 10 minutes, then it seized up. I just havent had the chance to get it replaced, but i don't forsee a problem. I've seen a lot of complaints about emptying the Hoover bagless container, I've never had a problem because i take it outside and stand upwind of it when i dump it in the big can! There is also a filter cleaning device which helps, but doesn't do the job 100%. Very Happy with this purchase!

Excellent!
I just got the Hoover windtunnel self propelled bagless upright and absolutely love it. I was going to get the hoover upright that wasn't self propelled, however, this one was on sale and the same price. I am so happy I did. I am no weakling, but the self propelled feature is wonderful to use. It doesn't move by itself, but assists as you gently guide it along. I never thought I would need or like self propelled but now I'm hooked.

We have 3 cats in our household so I clean several times a week. I filled the canister with cat "fuzz" just from the family room. I never realized just how poorly my old vacuum cleaned, or else this one cleans better than imaginable. The bagless feature is great, not only is it easy to remove and dump but I like the dial that cleans the hepa filter. You just turn the dial and dump the dust that is brushed off the filter, and there was a lot of dust! I never had a bagless vacuum before, but when I dumped the canister, I saw that I had vacuumed up some change and the back of an earing. If I had used a bagged model they would have been thrown away.

The hand held tools are so easy to use. Just put the hoover in the upright position and the suction goes to the hose. Everything is so easy and straight forward even my husband could use it without ever looking at the manual first. I don't think I will ever enjoy vacuuming, but now I don't consider it a chore.

A very good vacuum
I purchased this vacuum after my old Fantom one bit the dust (no pun intended). The Hoover vacuum has some really nice features that I looked for when researching which vacuum to buy. Some new features I liked was I didn't need to unravel the entire cord from the vacuum in order to get to use the on-board attachments (big plus), the canister to pulls out VERY easily to empty the dirt and loads back in VERY easily (unlike my old vacuum that I had to play with the cansiter for 5 minutes until it clicked into place). This Hoover vacuum also has the rotating brush attachment which is very nice for my staircase. The only things I would change if I could would have to be the weight of the vacuum (very heavy to lift up & down the stairs). I would also like to see the dirt empty out from the canister easier. There are too many little crevises for the dirt to attach to & it ends up not falling out properly so I have to get my hands dirt to empty it properly. Other than those two things, I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this model to anyone wanting a very good quality vacuum. Also, a top magazine company rated this vacuum excellent which is why I seeked out this model.

a bad experience
I purchased this model from [Amazon.com] a few months ago. Less expensive than Hoover's own factory store near where I live.
This cleaner has some very good reviews. HOWEVER, after two uses (in my home) mine went to the local Hoover store for repair. (the brushes were loosing a lot of their bristles) They replaced the brushes under warranty and I was told by the stores repair man (Oh yeah, they had to redesign the brushes, the original design did that). The repair took about three weeks (they had to order the replacement brushes and the warehouse was out of stock) Three calls to Hoover national customer assistance without the courtesy of even a reply. Several e-mails to Hoover headquarters customer support e-mail address with no reply. I got the cleaner back and was given a free replacement filter cartridge for my trouble. Two more uses and the gear box for the brushes burned out with a lot of evil smelling smoke from the melted plastic case. Back to the Hoover store. Another warranty repair. Now I have it back and will see what happens next. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I BUY A HOOVER. They seem not to care at all about customers or customer service. If this was a typical sample of their product quality they need some heavy duty help.

Great product & value!
It had only been a week since vacuuming when I brought this home. We have no kids & we don't wear shoes in the house so our carpet stays pretty clean, so we thought! I was amazed at what this vacuum picked up. Obviously cleans deeper than my previous Hoover (which was ready for retirement, even though it picked up anything visual on the carpet). Even without being self-propelled, it moved with great ease. Excellent product!

Thrilled, but Appalled!
The vacuum is the thrilling part. The stuff that appears in the cannister is appalling!

My previous vacuum was old and even when it was new, I was never really impressed with it. It was time to replace it.

RESEARCH - I did plenty of research - Consumer Reports, other online rating sources and of course, reviews written by customers here on Amazon. This model was the best of the bagless, which is what I wanted. There were 2 Windtunnels rated slightly better which used bags. Anyway, this is the one that looked best for me.

SUCTION - When I brought it home, it hadn't been long since I'd last vacuumed. I looked at the carpet and thought it didn't look bad, but I still wanted to try it out. I vacummed one room and then took a look at the cannister. Oh, my gosh! This vacuum really sucked (in a good way). Where did all that stuff come from? It must have pulled dirt from the floor below. Surely all that dirt and dust and hair and fluff wasn't in that one room! I refused to vacuum any more until my husband came home. He had to see this. We have several cats and one inside dog, but I still wasn't expecting to see so much dirt!

DUST IN THE AIR - I wanted a bag with a Hepa filter since I'm allergic to dust. After vacuuming a room with the U5720-900, the air is great. I can breathe just fine - no sniffles at all, unlike with my previous vacuum. However, emptying the cannister indoors (on any bagless vacuum) might not be a good idea. I take the cannister to a garbage can in our garage to empty it. so dust is not re-introduced to the indoor air. Then, since our house is apparently so filthy, I also take the Hepa out of the cannister (which is fast & simple)and shake out the extra dust. The instructions say you really don't need to do this each time, but, with all the dust in there, I think it's a good idea.

ATTACHMENTS - Consumer Reports only gave the attachments on this vacuum a GOOD, but I find them wonderful and simple. I love how they are arranged (easily accessible) and I love that the hose stays ready to use for quick pick ups. The only thing to do is choose which head you need or sometimes add an extension. The suction is good.

EFFORT - It's easy to push - it practically pulls itself along.

Bottom Line - I love it!

Average Vacuum - Better choices out there!
I had one of these vacuums for a very short time. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, along with various other small critters (ferrets, rats, hedgehogs) and 2 horses. So my house tends to get pretty dusty and pet hair is all over the place. This vacuum might work better for someone who is a little easier on their carpet than I am.

Mine constantly clogged with pet hair and human hair (up until 7 months ago I had very long hair), and it would lose suction easily. I found myself having to clean out the roller ALL the time, and it became more work to clean out the vacuum all the time than it was to vacuum the house!

I invested in a Dyson vacuum, and I haven't looked back since. While the price is much higher, the Dyson is MUCH better for pet owners! This hoover would be decent maybe for a petless person living in an apartment, or someone with no kids. Anyone who has to use their vacuum a LOT will probably not be happy, but if you're looking for a fairly inexpensive bagless vacuum, this is a decent choice.

Small, Compact & Doesn't wake the babies!
When I opened the box from Amazon.com and saw this vacuum, I was amazed at how much smaller it was than my Dirt Devil Bagless. I was a little worried that it wasn't what I expected and that I would have to return it but I was completely unprepared for the power of the little vacuum.
The first thing that I noticed was that it almost propelled itself across my carpet. Then I was amazed how much quieter it is than my previous vacuums. The kids weren't scared of the loud noise and my baby slept through it.
The fold down handle is SO convenient. I don't have a lot of storage room and in the past it was a pain to have to take my vacuum into the basement to store. It fits perfectly in my bedroom closet and I don't even notice it. As for the previous reviews that I read before purchasing it that stated it was a pain to clean the vacuum after you vacuum, that isn't true at all. The easy handle on the canister makes it a breeze to just take outside and dump into my trash can. I never have had to "vacuum off the vacuum when done" as some of the other reviews have stated. However, I did plug it up but that was my own fault for trying to make it suck up dry expanded foam insulation that was a foot high and I just wanted to see if it could do it. It did it but I caught a piece that was way too big and it lodged inside the hose. Compared to the hours that I have spent trying to unplug a clog in a dirt devil bagless, this was no big deal at all!!! The hose is somewhat transparent and I could spot right away where the clog was. I just squeezed the hose to break the large piece of insulation and it cleared right up. I have not needed to empty it everytime I vacuum like another review stated and I even have kids that drag cereal and such all over the carpet. My kids recently decided to pour out 2 boxes of Kix cereal on the floor while I was potty training another and boy, was I thankful for this vacuum. It is so easy to use that my 4 year old loves to vacuum his room although it is still a little big for him.
Overall, I am absolutely delighted and in love with this vacuum!! It fits right in with a busy house of children and is perfect for a home with limited storage space. It is so much quieter than the larger vacuums and has so much more power.

Good vacuum cleaner for an affordable price
Great suction and makes the carpet fluffy. The hose is a good feature as it picks up the bits from the corners. Find it a bit noisy and heavy for my size. But for the price and the service it is the best buy under the sun.

Hoover Bagless? We call it the Hoover Worthless!
We quickly discovered our Hoover Bagless machine had problems, but not until the store's 30 day return policy had expired. Repeated e-mails asking for advice/help turned into repeated e-mails from us complaining of problems with both the product and the total lack of response from Hoover. We've attempted to discuss our problems with Hoover, but we've received no response back. The Hoover has been relegated to cleaning the floors in the garage where I keep my antique car collection. We bought a different brand for the house.

Each time we started the Hoover, we first had to position the suction hose near the dirt cannister to catch the dust that flew out whenever the unit was first turned on. With 2 cats, we too were lured by advertising hoopla into the idea that this unit could handle the cat hair. Sure it can, but it means replacing an expensive ($30) filter about 6 to 8 times a year. You do the math - in a couple of years the cost of filters exceeds the cost of the Hoover!

Cleaning the "bagless cannister" is very messy, make sure you do it outside and on a calm day! We'll take a "bag type" anyday!
We've noticed that in all the Hoover bagless advetising we've seen on tv, The person using the bagless Hoover is picking up what looks like confetti. That's right, little pieces of paper. Not dirt, pet hair. etc. Any vac can pick up pieces of paper!

Great picker upper but.........fragile
We have 2 St. Bernards and our other vacuum was not picking up all the hair and our carpeting was not looking like it was even vacuumed. I read some very good reviews from dog owners and decided to go with it. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread for the first 6-8 months. Now all is does is break. I have had it to an authorized service 6 times in the past 8 months and I still have the same problems so now I am stuck with an expensive vacuum that has to go for a regular maintenance every 4-6 weeks. Love the pick up but not the problems!!

Kirby vs. Hoover
I bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner for a hefty price over 20 years ago. Although, it's made to last a lifetime, the weight of it makes it very cumbersome & it's a real pain to attach the attachments. With regular maintenance, it's lost it's suction power. My husband bought me a Hoover Self-Propelled Bagless Windtunnel almost a year ago & I LOVE it! It has great suction power (even when using the hose), the Self-Propelled feature is wonderful, I love not having to buy & change bags & the onboard attachments are real convenient. I have to empty the canister & clean the filter about once a month. If you have major dirt, animal hair, etc., you may have to clean it more often. The downside to this vacuum is the hose for the attachments doesn't stretch enough & the small brush attachment is too small. The bristles need to be longer & thicker.

Another disappointing vacuum for the bucks
The one great thing about this vacuum is that it does a excellent job of cleaning carpeting. I haven't had a problem with clogging or hair gathering around the brush, since my one pet has very short hair. The WindTunnel V2 is very heavy, carrying it up and down stairs is awkward, and you definitely have to have some upper arm strength to guide it across carpeted areas. On wood/tiled floors, it's suction is definitely less effective.

Like so many others here on Amazon, my main problem is with the errant dust and dirt flying when you empty the dirt canister--it sends me into sneezing fits. The canister is removed easily enough, but it's very obvious that the filter is not thoroughly cleaned, and it's also a messy process. I'm keeping it (inertia is a powerful force), but I wouldn't recommend this vacuum. Keep looking!

Makes vacuuming easy!!!
I bought the Hoover WindTunnel V2 Bagless and couldn't be happier. My place is as clean as ever. The carpets look brand new. Hardwood floor is dirt/dust/dog fur free. The agitation and suction this vacuum has is incredible. This thing picks EVERYTHING up. Two agitators are definitely better than one and now I can see why. I really like the attachments that come with it so I can vacuum the stairs and even my furniture easily. The bagless system makes it a snap to empty the dirt and dust collected....and boy does this thing suck up a ton of dirt and dust. Just don't tell the guys that I'm sitting here raving about vacuums!!!!

It makes this husband want to vacuum
When our two year old Eureka went dead, my wife told me we needed to get a new vacuum cleaner. The fugle shopper that she is, she didn't want to spend a lot on a new vacuum. As I usually do before a purchase, I research the quality and effectiveness of various vacuum cleaners both online and in stores. I knew that I wanted a bagless cleaner and the Hoover windtunnels was always the recommended brand. Even a [store] salesman recommended this model over a higher priced Kenmore.
I told my wife that we could either by a[less expensive] vacuum cleaner every other year -- which requires continual purchases of vacuum bags -- or we can spend a little more for a good bagless vacuum cleaner that will last five or more years.

We bought the WindTunnel V2 (U8130-900) and we do not reget spending one penny of the price. We immediately saw the difference in the cleaning power of the wind tunnel. They are a little heavier then other upright cleaners, but its performance more than makes up for the extra weight. Since most of the uprights are 12 Amps, I know the the amount of Amps does not disclose the amount of suction power a cleaner has. Hoover has a numbering system that gives you a rating of the suction power. The higher the number the greater the suction. This allows you to compare the cleaning power of all of its models. The highest I've seen so far is a rating of 31. The V2 has a rating of 29.0 -- plenty of power. It also is beltless, no more burning smell because your belt is not properly turning; or having to go search for a store that sells the right belt for your particular brand and model. As mentioned in most review of this model, its canistor is large enough to hold plenty of dirt and allows you to dispose of the dirt from one side without removing the HEPA filter which is housed in the opposite side of the dirt container. The handle is well designed with its power button within reach of your fingertip. It also has an oval opening at the top of the handle that allows it to be lifted. The handle reclines parallel to the floor which makes cleaning uder furinture a little easier. It also has a switch to turn of the beater brushes while cleaning the floor. Although my vacuum cleaner is fairly new, 5 Sept 02, and has not been battle test by time, I do know the various filter prevent any dust or odors from being released. This makes for cleaner air, which is good for any alergy victims or thoughs who have babies and small children about the house.

The only things I wish Hoover would have added are the power hand brush, an extra hose and a retractable power cord. The handbrush can be purchased as an accessory and comes with the higher WindTunnel V2 model which cost [a bit more]. The higher V2 model is essentially the same vacuum cleaner except that it comes with the powered brush and can be used with or without a bag; I assume the bag would provide added filtration. The power brush also comes with a lower model that is not a V2 and has a suction rating of 27. The extra hose would be handy for dusting high spaces, cleaning stairs, or getting around the interior of your vehicle. Since I have to nit-pick to find a few cons, it says a lot about this vacuum cleaner.

In conclusion, I recommend this vacuum cleaner to those who could afford to put up the money for it. If the WindTunel's quality is as good and long lasting as many people have told me, in the long run it should save you money -- no bags, no belts, and no [lower priced] vacuum cleaners ever few years. it's enough to make a husband want to vacuum; it has in this family.

dirty dog!
I was very disappointed with this vacuum. I bought it because I thought there would be a real advantage to having a bagless vacuum with a HEPA filter. Having allergies, less exposure to dust is very important. I quickly realised that using this vacuum actually makes exposure to dust much more a problem! When I use it, I can actually see dust collecting outside the lid rim of the canister. Just to be sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong, I checked and rechecked how I had the placement of the lid and the canister after an emptying (it really is a straight forward proceedure). Even changing the canister every vacuum session has not stopped this problem. And don't bother trying to pick up the vacuum by the handle if it's running. Dust will really shoot out into the air. Emptying the canister is just plain awful. You have to hold your breath while you are doing it. Save your money and don't buy this vacuum!

Save Yourself!!!
Today the vacuum cleaner started smelling of burnt rubber. I discovered the belt was broken. After reading the reviews below I guess this will be a common problem. The bagless design is a terrible mess when it comes to emptying the chamber. My wife makes me put on a dust mask prior to emptying it and then I have to shower to remove the dust residue.

In summary I would not buy this vacuum cleaner, stick to bagged models and SAVE YOURSELF!!!!

I have to agree.....
I thought I just used the vacuum too much, but after reading the other reviwers comments I must agree. I'm online now shopping for a vacuum with A BAG! I have severe allergies and it was a MESS to empty the canister. The large filters cost aprox. $30. I found myself trying to clean the filter to save money! We have gone through many belts. I am having a lot of dust "escaping" from the compartment and have tried to remedy it in every way the manual has suggested.

I have to admit though, In the beginning it did pick up great, but now it's a pain!

Don't buy this.
Worked for a short while. Now it leaves lines of dust and won't pick up anything. I also can't find a replacement filter. I'm very disappointed in Hoover.

A Horrible Vacuum and a Horrible Experience
Have only owned it a couple of months and from day one it has emitted a burning smell which you can smell throughout the whole house. Some times the suction is quite good, the next day it doesn't seem to work at all. Going back to a bag vacuum

Don't complain about something unless you know how it works!
This is a great vaccum, if you know how to use it. I had the same problem of a burning smell that a lot of people have written about, and the belt to the vacuum broke almost instantly. However, when I took it to the repair place, the guy showed me that I had the carpet level setting all wrong, and that's what caused the smell and the broken belt. Now that I know how to use my vacuum, it works like a charm. It comes with a bunch of different attachment tools and is great at picking up cat hair.

Don't waste your money
I bought this because my $300 Kenmore vacuum cleaner had broke. I figured I would go for less expensive because I couldn't believe that I my other expensive one broke after only 4 years.Plus,I had figured it would be nice to have a bagless too.I thought this vacuum was great for the first week that I had it. Then I started to notice all kinds of problems.First,it seems to get clogged way too easy.Second,THERE IS ALMOST NO SUCTION!!! This is a huge problem. The attachments are useless because there is very little suction.Half the time the stuff you just vacuumed up falls out when you go to put the hose back.I spend more time picking stuff back up off the floor. I have cleaned it out several times now since owning it(11/2003) hoping to make it work better. Also, the hose for the attachments comes off real easy. They made it so you could replace it easy or clean out a clog. This is a great idea except for one thing, they didn't seem to think about the fact that you would be using this and moving in different directions to clean. So,the hose comes detached all the time as well. They needed to make it lock in place.I do not believe that this product was ever tested because they never would have put it on the market if they did. I need something that works better than this. I have two cats and three kids.I vacuum at least once a day, everyday and this vacuum is not cutting it.I need a real vacuum with real suction. If you are a single person with no pets and no need for attachments, than you might be alright with this vacuum. If you're a mom with pets, forget it!!Spend the extra money for a better vacuum. You do not need your vacuum driving you nuts too.

Clogs constantly!
Have owned this item for 4 months and had to clean the hose of clogs at least 5 times. It clogs on pine needles, trimmed hair, and darn near anything else. It doesn't even have the suction to get dry cat food into the collection bin, it all gets stuck in the roller area.

I have small children and this vacuum is just not up to the kind of things they spill.

Unless you are vacuuming dust and only dust I would not recommend this vacuum.

Terrible!
I bought this to replace my old Eureka upright less than 5 months ago. At first, I was impressed with the suction that it had, but disappointed with the "edging" feature. I had to use the crevice tool to actually get near the edge. Still, I had high hopes for this bagless cleaner.

I have cleaned and had to entirely replace one of the three filters since then as they are constantly getting clogged. I have to take this outside to empty it because it is so dusty and dirty, I would not want this in my house. I thought the idea behind bagless was that it was easier and cleaner to empty the container than to take out a bag and throw it away. As it is, I am in the driveway with a trashbag over the container every time I clean to empty it and struggling to put the fliters back in "just right" or the top won't stay on.

As was stated in the other review, it will blow dust all over your house.

I am VERY disappointed in this product and am ready to put this where it belongs---on the curb for the trashmen to pick up!

Not worth it
I bought this to replace my old Hoover (which I loved, and lasted me 10 yrs.), thinking I might like bagless. This vaccum was messy, loud and when I used a powder carpet cleaner it spewed dust all over my house. For the money, I would expect a lot better. I'm guessing to avoid the problem I had, you might have to change the filter constantly, which would become extremely expensive and wasteful. Considering I emptied the dirt cup every time I used it and it still was messy and dusty. Terrible, now I don't even want another Hoover vaccum.
