Everything you want in a hand vac
It is powerful (little loud and it does blow from the side vents quite strong). It has a little built in brush which is great for sofas. The basket is small and needs to be emptied frequently to get the full power of the vac. I wish it had a stick to I didn't have to bend the whole time I was using it. When it's clean it will pick up the scattered sand from the cat box which many others don't do and it does a great job on dog hair. It has a little extension nozzle for getting under the frig and in the corners. I use this and the Eureka Boss stick vac, with rotating brush for carpets, daily and only need to use my full size vacuum a couple times a month. It's definitely worth the money.

Awesome hand vac
This hand vac is great! It has perfect suction and a good amount of run time. The suction hole is a good size and the debris cup is large, easy to dump and rinsable. Filters are super easy to find and order at dirtdevil.com. The quick flip crevice tool is very handy. This vacuum is very nice. I've owned it a month and use it often to clean up after my kids. It works beautifully.

Love My Dirt Devil Shampooer
This is the greatest little shampooer, light weight, easy to use, easy to fill/empty and cleans beautifully. Cleans like a heavy expensive one. I highly recommend it. The only negative was the difficulty in assembling but if a mechanically inept person like myself can do it, anyone can.

Nice for the price!
I set it up in about 5 minutes. This is a great product for the small apartment.Small area rugs and for chairs with cloth. The only drawback is that you have to keep refilling the water. After the second cleaning my rugs were very clean and new looking. Well worth the price.

Great product for small home
Easily assembled at 8 p.m. and shampooed living by 10 p.m.
Did a 12x12 room with 1 gallon of water, 4 oz of cleaner (16 oz comes with product), and cleaned out dirty water reservoir 3 times. Upholstery tools are handy too.

Great value for the price and the 2-year warranty!

Not as good as the Catch-all
I couldn't decide between this and the Bissell Catch-all so I bought both and set up a test run. After covering the floor with crumbs, dust, pet hair, dirt, etc I put both products to the test. Both products are similar but the Dirt Devil failed to pick up crumbs and dirt as well as the Bissell Catch-All. The Bissell has the rotating brush which allows it to "sweep" up larger particles that the Dirt Devil had no hope of picking up unless you run it over and over again. The Dirt Devil did a good job at pet hair and fine dust but anything larger ended up getting pushed around by the swiffer pad. I also disliked that battery is built into the unit. The Bissell's battery is seperate so you can store it in the closet and charger can go anywhere (who has power outlets in their closets, Dirt Devil?). This also allows you to buy replacement batteries to get longer run time or when the original craps out. With the Dirt Devil you're stucking buying a new one I guess. The Dirt Devil's head was much better at getting into those hard to reach places, but it was so pathetic at picking up crumbs compared to the Catch-All that I quickly declared the Catch-All the better product. For kicks I had my wife do the same tests (without sharing my results) and she concluded the same thing. Skip the Dirt Devil and get the Bissell Catch-All, it's a better product by far.

Waste of Money!
I bought this thinking it would be handier than getting out the big sweeper just for a little job. If it's hair and small dust you need to clean up just buy the plain Swiffer. The vacuum part of this is worthless. It could not pick up crumbs or small amounts of dirt left behind from my husbands work shoes. The thought of something rechargeable that I could just quickly get out and run across the floor sounded great, but this product doesn't do the trick. Don't waste your money. I was very disappointed and I am still hoping I can find a rechargeable product that stacks ups to the job!

Awesome tool for homes with Hardwoods and critters
Has to be the best $40 I have spent in a long time. Just had 1000 sqf of oak hardwoods installed. I also have a siberian husky, cat and 120 lb newfie wolf that stay in house most of day. I ripped the carpet out because of severe difficulty in keeping clean and hair free. With this little tool, it takes me 15 minutes max, usually one swiffer pad and one canister dumping to rid the whole area of all hair and dirt. I do this a couple times a week. Moves under and around furniture much like the swiffer broom. Where it doesn't reach well, the vacum kicks in. I have not run the battery down yet with the small spurts of vacum use needed.I recommend this vac to anyone who is a clean-a-holic especially if you own pets.

Very Heavy & Hard to Move, but Does a Nice Job
I bought this vacuum because of the great price and the Dirt Devil brand. It is very heavy and hard to move (the back wheels are small and narrow swivel wheels). Once it is set on the correct height (bare floor/high pile) it works great. Changing these settings is somewhat difficult (you have to lean the vacuum back with one hand and change the knob on the bottom with the other). It does do very well with pet hair, I have three dogs in the house and it gets up their fur! The attachments are nice (the hose is a bit hard to pull out, but it might be that it's still new and not worn in). If I had it to do over I'd probably buy a self propelled or lighter vacuum, your arms will get a great workout using this vacuum! Overall it's okay, it does it's job, but I know there are easier, lighter ones out there.

I think they sold me a jet engine by mistake
This vacuum is insane. I read reviews about it being loud, but I am a 21 year old college student, I dont care about noise. I got behind the wheel of this thing & I love it. It almost gave me a sense of power! Im not one for cleaning at all, but I love to use this thing. Its fairly easy to move around with its swivel casters, however, it will not roll properly if you try to move it while it is locked in the upright position.
My favorite feature of the vacuum is the turbo hand tool. It has a spinning brush in it that operates from the suction. It is unstoppable! I pushed it hard into the carpet of my stairs to see if I could get it to stop, couldnt do it. This tool is best for cleaning pet hair off furniture and cleaning the stairs. It also comes with a crevis tool, soft brush tool, and extension as well. The crevis tool matched with the extension tube will give you a tool long enough to clean all the way under your couch and refrigerator. The only problem I have is with the hose. It is very nice and flexible, but the incredible suction of the vacuum tends to contract the hose. To use the hand tools I have to hold the hose about half way up with my left hand, then use the tool with my right.
The canister system is very nice. I picked up a lot of junk in my carpet (I have 1 cat). It cleaned out fairly easily, but the filter did take a bit of shaking to get completly clean (ie. dust goes airborn). The canister snaps very securly to the body of the vacuum. The little headlight feature is kinda neat looking, but I dont do my vacuuming in the dark, so its kind of a frill feature.
As far as weight goes, I found it quite light when bringing it up my stairs. I am an average strength guy. I dont think most people (except maybe elderly and small children) would have much problem moving it from place to place.
My second and last problem with the vacuum is that the brushes dont turn off when you start using the hand tools. I dont think it will get to the point of burning your carpet, but to use the hand tools, you detach the hose, so the brushes tend to toss up some dust onto the side of the vacuum where the hose is open.

In all, I love using this vacuum, it may be a little loud, but for the time that I use it, its worth the extra cleaning power. The powered hand tool is also a dream come true.

Excellent Vacuum!
This is a great vacuum. I've been using it for about a month & I'm shocked at how much nasty stuff this bad boy vacuum picks up. It's great. I didn't think my carpet was that dirty until I used this thing. It is a little loud, but it's a vacuum. It's not any louder than the any other vacuum. Definitely worth the money. I recommend!

Returned this monstrosity after one use!
I cannot emphasize how LOUD this tiny vac is! It could really wake the dead, in addition to scaring any small children and annoying all of your neighbors!

I about had a heart attack when I turned it on~ it was SO loud it felt like my eardrums were going to burst. My toddler, who was in the opposite end of the house, freaked out and started screaming (she has NO fear or problem with our full sized Eureka vac). Unfortunately my daughters screams were no match for this vac~ it looked like a 'silent scream' because there was no way I could hear her over this thing~ anything that outdoes a screaming toddler is not good in my book! I have never vacuumed a floor so fast in my life~ just to be able to shut the thing off and have some quiet!

Aside from the noise, the fans in the vacuum blow away the dirt/fur you are trying to vacuum! I have pets and it was pointless chasing after the hair, hoping to suck it up before the fans blew it to the other side of the room. I will say it worked well on sucking up other stuff and the only real positive, it is light and easy to maneuver around.

Still, those small things cannot make up for the noise~ I returned it today and will look for something else.

LOUD Sucker!
Whoa! I was really surprised how loud this thing is! Sometimes my ears hurt after clean up my studio.

The motor is surprisingly powerful for such a tiny vac. My floors looked pretty clean to begin with, but this vac proved otherwise. In two sweeps of the floor, I was able to fill up the debris compartment with lint, hair, and other nasties.

I really like this vac.
1. I breath a lot easier now, thanks to the integrated air filter.
2. It's high quality ABS construction and very intuitive to assemble/de-assemble.
3. Extremely powerful motor.

But it's too LOUD! If you get this vac, buy a pair of ear plugs...

Woohoo Power!
I live in a dorm room, therefore I have very thin carpet in a very small living space. Nonetheless, I would still like it to be clean. So, I came to dilemma of whether to buy a full size vacuum or go for something smaller. My family has always bought Dirt Devils - from a full size vacuum down to the small handheld Scorpion, and we've always had excellent results. Great power, long life, sturdy, etc.

So, in my quest for the perfect vacuum, I found the Power Stick. What caught my eye was the specified use for dorm rooms. I figured the price was right, free shipping, and ordered it right away.

Dang is this vacuum powerful! It's as powerful as a full-size vac, yet only half the size and weight. Granted it is really loud, but I don't mind that as it takes no time whatsoever to get hte vacuuming done. I got my entire room done in less than a minute, but my floor is extremely clean. I couldn't believe how much it picked up! There's a huge mouse-sized hair ball in the cup, and I didn't even see hair on the carpet! So, although I was a bit anxious about not having a roller bar, I know it's not going to be a problem because of the powerful suction. The cup is easy to remove and empty, and it even has a filter in the cup to help. The cord's length is perfect for my room, but I think it would be just fine for any room. It's also very maneuverable, which makes up for the lack of attachments. I was able to get the nozzle in all cracks and corners, and it was incredibly easy to turn around while vacuuming

The only problems I have with the vacuum (but not enough for me to give it 4 stars) is its noise and the weight. The weight is good for vacuuming as you don't have to put much muscle into pushing it around. But, as far as standing it up in a corner, I foresee it falling. If you hang it up on a door with the hook that shouldn't be a problem, but if you're going to stand it up, I recommend standing it near a wall. It's a lot of weight on the bottom and just the stick on top. It can stand up on its own, but it's also easy to knock down.

Lasted 4 months
Nice while it worked but after using it a dozen times, the turbin started chafing against the housing and it stopped working: after opening, we concluded it was a very poor design.

works decently, but poor construction
this vacuum worked decently (picked up cat litter and dust but wasn't so good with hairs) for about 4 months before the flip-down crevice nozzle broke off. and after owning the thing for 8 months and using it a couple times a month, the latch that holds the nose to the handle (which you open to empty the debris) broke off, so the vacuum is completely broken. i called customer service and determined that it would be cheaper and less of a hassle to buy a new hand vac than to ship it to them for repair/replacement.

It has SEVEN AMPS! YESSS!
4 stars for fear it won't hold up (see other reviews). We'll see how long it lasts, but so far I LOVE IT! Other than one mishap involving inadvertent opening of the cover, causing the full filter to spill everywhere, I used it all day yesterday with no problems. I love the siren-like turbine motor (you want quiet? use a broom), the way the thing kicks like a chainsaw when you start it, and the lovely flip-down crevice tool. I know you're not supposed to vacuum insects with it, but who can resist if they happen to wander into your path? *FOOMP*

Poor Design
I have had this vacum for about 6 months now. It has great suction but very poor design. The cord is attached to the bottom half of the sweeper and I've run it over several times even when holding the cord in one hand while sweeping. The cord was severed once. It is much too powerful to sweep heavy duty scatter rugs. I've torn several expensive rugs. The body of it is high off the ground and doesn't fit under my kitchen cabinets (between floor and cabient is about 6 inches). It is so heavy to push even with the self-propelled on that the plastic handle broke off and I have it duct-taped on now.

Bottom Line - I do not recommend this sweeper!

Poor design, poor Customer Service
While this vacuum may have adequate suction it, like most Dirt Devil uprights, is very poorly designed. The biggest issue is the design of the handheld hose; it comes out the top of the unit so the vacuum constantly falls over when you try to use it mine finally broke. Checkout the owners manual, they have some kludgey way to loop the hose down and hook it to the base, as if that is practical. The lock that holds the vacuum upright wore out twice in four years, the beater brush wore out, the attachments are cheaply made. It does not work on bare floors and cannot even pick up a small piece of gravel due to the design of the brush/pickup. I contacted Dirt Devil about my problems and they said "we don't deal with problems, your only recourse is where you bought it". You may want to check out Bissel (they are inexpensive and they can't be worse).

Very Pleased with this Sucker!
I am from a family of 8 kids and an average of 20 animals all living in one house at a time. Needless to say, we have gone through many vacuums; inexpensive and expensive. When I got my own apt. I needed something affordable and powerful (I have 5 pets and a husband to clean after)!
I love this vacuum. I had no problem with the canister issue that I have read about by others. I have two bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room to vacuum and I can do it usually without having to empty the canister until the end. As far as I am concerned, I am glad to fill the canister, because it means that the dirt, hair, dust, and etc. is no longer laying on my floor! Even if I have to empty every once in a while in the middle of cleaning, at least I don't have to worry about running out of bags in the middle of cleaning!
I haven't had a problem with the belt yet. I do believe that if you are having a problem with the belt burning so quickly, it could be the result of the height setting being set too low. This would cause constant added resistance to the belt causing the belt to overheat and melt.
The auto-drive did take some getting used to, but I like it now. It makes the vacuum feel a little lighter than it is while your vacuuming. The good thing is the feature can be turned off if you can not get used to it.
This is the best vacuum I have ever used on pet hair. The hand tool works wonderfully, but it is operated with a very small belt that I have not had to change yet. I have never had a hand tool that gets pet hair out of upholstery; I usually use a wet cloth of some type, but I no longer have to do that.
I am very impressed with everything about the vacuum. I have since referred it to my mother and my grandmother and they both bought one today so we will see if they encounter any problems with theirs.
I hope that helps. Good luck with whichever you choose!

"Power" "Reach" - Ha!
I'm really sorry I purchased this vacuum. Yes, it has a beater bar, but the lightest pressure (such as gravity) will keep the bar from spinning. Whatever dirt it picks up often falls back out of the vacuum head/attachment head, so you do twice the vacuuming for the same effect. This is a very poor product and isn't worth any amount of money. My 10 year old Dirt Devil with the worn motor and clumsy attachments does a better job.

One positive thing - the box looks nice.

Should have read the reviews first
I made the mistake of buying this without reading the reviews first. I bought this because I wanted a hand vac with a revolving brush to vacuum my stairs. The problem is the brush stops revolving when it comes in contact with the carpet. What's the point? I took it back to the store the next day.

Original is better
After having the Original Dirt Devil Hand Vac for over 10 years it finally gave out. I purchased the Power Reach and it has good power but we need the extension of the flexible hose and extension wands! The Power Reach has no accessories! And the old extension tools don't fit. I wouldn't call it "reach" at all! If you need to get up high I wouldn't purchase this one. I am returning it and getting the original.
