I love my Dyson
I got my Dyson DC07 with floor tool only today but I just had to review it right away because it's awesome. I was hesitant to pay this amount for a vacuum but now would do it again.
I have previously owned two lower-end bag vacuums and one Fantom bagless, have cream-colored carpets, a constantly shedding dog (dog hair), two small children (dirt), and a husband in the construction industry (lots more dirt).
I loved the Fantom but after a year of use it started breaking continually and it just wasn't worth it anymore.
As for the Dyson, of course it has great suction power; but I expected that in paying this price. What I was most blown away by was how well thought-out this machine is.
-There's a handle for extremely easy carrying.
-It's not as loud or heavy as I expected it to be at this performance level.
-It's a breeze to empty the cannister and put it back.
-It adjusts automatically to carpet height (and got my berber really clean- which my previous vacuums could not, even the Fantom).
-It's easy to release the handle to start sweeping, and the handle goes all the way to the ground so I can get under/around things easier.
-The hose and cord go on forever so I can sweep without changing outlets or sweeper positions as often.
-I didn't even get the stair tool (used one that came with the vacuum) and it got my stairs unbelievably clean.
-The tools it comes with are so easy to pop off and use, and yet so secure (they are stored in their own cubbies on the handle itself).
If I had to name one thing that I think could be improved, it would be that at first it seems a little awkward to handle the Dyson hose. The Fantom hose was easier but it had a shorter hose, and clogged often. The Dyson hose seems sturdier and is definitely longer.
I almost feel silly saying this because it sounds so overboard, but Dyson is a genius. Everything about this vacuum says "high end" to me and there is probably nothing I would change if I could. Why can't other vacuum companies make their vacuums this user-friendly?

Amazing power and cleaning - buy a Dyson
I received my Dyson earlier this week and immediately assembled it (a little tricky as the instruction verbiage is a little thin and the pictures a little small) so that I could immediately try it out. I was, quite simply, amazed. I did not think my carpet was that dirty. I was just running the vacuum to pick up a few fuzzies from my socks having just run my old Eureka (which was constantly eating belts) the day before. I couldn't believe how much dirt, hair, and dust quickly accumulated in the clear canister.

I like the fact that this vacuum cleaner has a 2 year warranty (others have only a 1 year warranty). I also find the vacuum no harder to push or maneuver than my old light weight Eureka.

One last thing, I found a comment in another review that Dyson was self-promoting by writing reviews on this page to be ludicrous. Dyson doesn't have to stoop to that level, though maybe Dyson's competitors do. This vacuum is as good as all the 5-star reviews here say it is and I'm glad the inventor was able to win his patent suits against the big competitor to be able to continue to market these machines until they finally made it to America. It gives hope that the little guy with the better idea can win in the end.

Sold!
I was a little skeptical that it could be THAT great. But it is THAT great. My old vacuum recently went downhill after 3 years. It was a Simplicity. Previously I'd had an Oreck, which I liked very much at the time. I read most of the reviews on this machine this morning, and even checked out reviews of other machines before deciding this was the one for me. I came home and started vacuuming right away. I just vacuumed and steam cleaned all my carpets a week ago and this picked up so much "stuff" that I was stunned! I thought my house was clean. NOW I think it is clean. It was easy to put together and I have already tried each of the attachments which was also pretty easy. I got about 3/4 of the container full of dust from this first use. It is easy to empty also. No doubt... go get one if you are considering it. Worth every cent!

An outstanding Vacuum Cleaner!
Let me begin by saying that I have three dogs and two cats. Pet hair is the biggest cleaning challenge in our house.

After convincing my wife to discontinue our professional cleaning service, due to increasing costs, I volunteered to take the cleaning duties related to the floors and the furniture. My wife foolishly took on the kitchen, bathrooms, and dusting. What my wife didn't know was that I had been reading up on the Dyson "Animal".

The "Animal" arrived just two days after our last professional cleaning. I immediately vacuumed the entire house and was absolutely amazed at how much pet hair and dirt I pulled out of the carpets and off our hardwood floors. Our house has never been so absent of pet hair. Even my pets were beside themselves. My wife was thoroughly impressed. She said that the house looked and smelled cleaner than ever!

The "Animal" is a total cleaning machine. It easily attacked hardwood floors, carpets, curtains, furniture, and stairs. It's the best cleaning machine I have ever used. Adding a sixth animal to our family was the best thing I ever did!

If you have pets and need a high powered cleaning machine, get the "Animal"! It's worth the money! I donated my old cleaning machines to our YMCA.

A Must For All Multi Pet Owners
I cannot even begin to tell you the number of vacuum cleaners I have had over the years. I take in abandoned an abused animals.
Usually within 6 months the motor would go out. I have a Oreck and a Fantom Thunder. The Oreck worked great for awhile but the motor did go out and had to be replaced. I didn't like the fact it had no on board tools and the bags are expensive and hard to find. The Fanton is heavy and it started leaking dust around the dust cup. Both of these vacuum cost amost $400.00 at the time I purchased them.
After some research I purchased this Dyson. I am so glad I did.
This vacuum is a pet lovers dream. Before I used the Dyson for the first time, I vacuumed my carpet in my family room several times with 2 other vacuums, then I went back over it with the Dyson. I expected a little more pet hair after all it was a new vacuum, but it is what else I get that shocked and embarrassed me. In the vacuum cup there was a little pet hair but there was also this ultra fine dirt, it almost looked like powder. There was so much of this dust I decided to put it in a bag and weigh it. The embarrasing part is it weighed 4#, I couldn't believe it. You must understand I vacuum twice a day everyday and I shampoo my carpets once a month. I take pride in the fact my house has no pet odors, I work hard to make sure of this. But, all this was in my carpet. After I finished vacuuming my carpet look renewed like it was freshly shampooed.
I love this vacuum and wish I would have purchased it sooner. It is well worth every penny and then some. If has every attachment you could ever want. It took a little time to figure out how to attach them but once I did it was wonderful. The powerhead upholstery tool is fabulous.
Take if from the queen of vacuum cleaners, this is the one to buy.

So much better than any other vacuum!
*
My last vacuum, prior to finally purchasing a Dyson Animal, was a top-of-the-line Hoover WindTunnel V2. When it was new, the Hoover performed well, and I really loved the Turbo Tool (a smaller version of the similar attachment which comes with the Dyson); but the main H.E.P.A. filter cartridge was clogged and ruined in short order by the super-fine local dust in my carpet (I live on a hill, surrounded by protected, undeveloped County land, in a semi-semi-semi-rural area, and there is always a fine coat of dust on everything), not to mention the dog hair and cat hair, the parakeet down and birdseed, dried bits of grass, burrs and foliage which get dragged-in stuck to the cats, and the dirt left behind by a messy plumbing contractor husband (he comes home with his jeans covered in clumps of dried-on mud, which of course flakes off and crumbles all over the place as he walks around the house, and he wonders why that upsets me).
In my house, the Hoover H.E.P.A. filters only lasted about 20% of the recommend filter life. After replacing the filters only 5 times, I had already nearly doubled the original cost of the Hoover vacuum within about a year!
I had known about the Dyson for quite a while, but was reluctant to invest the extra money...until I allowed myself to face the fact that replacing the Hoover filters was costing an arm and a leg on a fairly frequent basis, and continuing to buy filters was just dumb, when there was an alternative.
I started searching for the best price on the Dyson (I'm virtually always a staunch comparison shopper anyway, just on principle). I shopped and shopped and waited and waited and finally got the Dyson Animal on sale.
Man, I wish I had just broken down and bought it earlier.
What a difference! Like another of the Reviewers here, I tested the Dyson by first vacuuming with the Hoover WindTunnel (new filters installed), and following immediately with the Dyson Animal. The Dyson made the Hoover seem like a toy! It removed 2 times over again the amount of dirt, dust, lint, fuzz, bits of dried grass and leaves, crumbs and pet hair from carpet I had just vacuumed with the Hoover moments earlier! And I had thought that my carpet was pretty clean after vacuuming with the Hoover WindTunnel. YUCK!
The Dyson grooms the carpet really well, too; lifting the nap and making it appear all plush and nearly new. Must be that constant suction power.
Any other readily available vacuum, bag or bag-less, upright or canister, just cannot compete with the modern Dyson cyclonic technology.
A Dyson is also simple to operate, rolls smoothly, doesn't tip over, and is not heavy (once you get it out of the box and assembled). The controls, multiple functions, cord holder, attachments, etc. are well designed and easy to manipulate. It is easy to lift (has a strategically placed handle) for moving about or to carry upstairs. The "Lifetime" filters can be easily cleaned just by rinsing or washing in mild sudsy water - follow the instructions and the recommended timetable; it even has a built-in reminder of when the filter should be cleaned.
The Dyson is also a lot easier to clean, and to empty the catching bin. It seems to generate far less static electricity than other plastic-housed machines, and dust doesn't build-up on it as readily.
It is far more versatile than most other vacuums, especially with the accessories that come with the Animal model, and - considering its power - IT IS VERY QUIET! You can actually carry-on a conversation while vacuuming with a Dyson, by speaking only a little louder than normal, instead of shouting "WHAT?!" or having to stop your cleaning when somebody just simply cannot wait to ask you something.
Based on my experience, I would highly recommend a Dyson for anyone who is shopping for a full-sized vacuum cleaner.
Yes, it seems quite a bit more money to spend for a small household appliance, and is even very expensive for many people; save-up for it if you can! It will be well worth it. The Dyson cleans better than any other vacuum currently on the market, and keeping your carpets and upholstery clean will extend the fabric life, and help keep them looking in top condition.
I can hardly wait for Dyson to come up with a compact, "light-weight", "stick" version. Wonder if that's in the works?

I can't believe I'm this excited about a vacuum!!
I too am now a Dyson convert.

My family's 4-year old Dirt Devil died once again over the weekend, so we finally decided to stop repairing it and just get a new vacuum. Not knowing what we really should look for, we just went to a major electronics / appliances retailer and 'window-shopped'.

We wound up going home with a Westinghouse WST1600 cordless vacuum. A cordless vacuum - how cool is that (I thought)? Yes, it was very cool, but simply too weak. After using it to vacuum my living room it was obvious we needed more power (we have 2 cats, and high-pile carpet). So back to the store it went!

This time I made the right choice. I purchased this DC07, brought it home, vacuumed my living room again (2nd time that day) and it was AMAZING the amount of dust and hair and lint and sand it picked up. You'd swear the carpet had never been vacuumed before! My wife and I were actually as giddy as kids with how well it performed, and took turns using it on the carpet / sofa / loveseat / etc.

Although I only had this vacuum a short time, I give 5/5 stars easily. Everything about it is just 'smart': the extra-long hose, the ease of use, the super-easy clear bin emptying, and of course the architecture of the thing itself that allows it to suck with so much power.

You WON'T be disappointed!

better than my wet/dry shop vac for my carpet
...In sum, I bought the yellow dyson, the thing works really well. And yes, it's much better than my wet/dry shop vac for cleaning my wall to wall carpet (hey, don't knock the idea... :)

After I opened the box, I removed the plastic cover bags. Here's the cool factor: the yellow vacuum is like one big lego set. Click this, click that... slide this part here, slide that part there. The plastic doesn't seem to brittle... good quality for durability (time will tell). Some reviews said it was confusing to configure the parts... the truth, in 3 minutes I snapped the parts in place without reading the manual (mental note to self: read the manual to see if I damaged this thing). Then I started it...and said... repeat after me... show-me-the-m-o-n-e-y. The suction seemed very okay to good. Some reviews said the thing sucked their arm off... mine didn't appear to be that powerful.

What I liked: long cord, unique-sound: like a loud hair dryer, clear-bag-tube-suction-thing so i can see the junk, no bags, does a better job than my shop vac on my carpet. :)

what i didn't like: when you tilt the vacuum head, the suction seemed to have "issues"... suction goes down a little. and tilting the vacuum head, seemed, well...cheap. I didn't notice any good locking mechanism for the tilting head (but I haven't read the manual, and I was hungry for dinner so the manual can wait, until I start feeling guilty about buying a ... vacuum)

my recommendation: it's a solid vacuum for home with wall to wall carpet. Obviously if you're looking for a commerical hotel-level vacuum, you'll have to do more research and get a commerical catalog. The litmus test: I would buy it again.

This is the best!!!!!!!
I love this vacuum!!!! I am an allergy/ asthma sufferer as well as my husband and other family members and have tried several vacuums to help eliminate our problems. This vaccum runs so clean. It's pretty quiet. It's very easy to use and assemble right out of the box. It picked up about 6oz. of dirt in a 11x13 ft. room that was vacuumed earler in the day by a Hoover Fold Away that was about 10 mos. old. The Hoover had a part that kept breaking so it was returned and this Dyson replaced it. I cannot believe how much dirt was in my carpet from the previous vacuum. I also own an Oreck commercial vacuum and the Dyson beats it hands down. I will be trying to sell my Oreck in my next garage sale as it is obsolete next to the Dyson. If you're in the market for a vacuum, this is one to try you won't be disappointed!

quiet and powerful
Light and quiet, the Harmony really cleans hardwood floors and area rugs well. We don't have wall-to-wall, but from what I can tell, if you have lots of carpets I would recommend moving up to the Oxygen model. It does not come with a powered carpet attachment. Gotta work a bit to clean carpets - glides easily on hardwood. Stores in small places. Great design and easy to use; instructions are a bit weak. Overall happy, great in a small city house/apartment.

Good things do come in small packages!
Don't let the size and the weight fool you. The Harmony is powerful for its size. This unit is unbelievably quiet when compared to an upright or other canisters. We have hardwoods throughout and 2 dogs that shed (tumbleweeds)all year round. This vacuum has no problem handling the job. This is a must vacuum for pet owners! The unit does an awesome job of eliminating dust and absolutely no odors from the unit (unlike the bag units). I have never had a vacuum which has made doing carpeted stair cases so easy. I finish in half the time. The tools are easy to switch around. I do agree with the previous review, if you have wall to wall I would suggest the larger unit.

All in all, I am very pleased and have recommended it to several friends and family who will be purchasing the unit soon.

Buyer Beware....This is not a real Electrolux!!
I purchased an upright Electrolux about 20 years ago and the vacuum is still going strong, needed another vacuum and greed got the best of me......"an Electrolux for just a little over $300?....I better snatch that up right away!"....What a mistake!! cheap, poor fitting plastic, poor overall performance. a warmed over Eureka (Same Company).

Evidently Electrolux sold off the high quality vacuum cleaner portion of their business to a company called Aerus, they have a web site or you can buy a slightly different version of the Aerus 3000, still the high quality of past Electrolux's, on QVC called the "Ultralux by Electrolux" for $344.

What a Rip-Off
I first, i thought i was getting a "True Electrolux" for a bargin price. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is oh so true. As it turns out, this is a cheap Eureka vacuum cleaner. First time i tryed to clean under a chair, i discovered the brush head lifts off the floor completely. Forget cleaning under a bed. It's noisy, looks like cheaper tthan normal plastic parts. It also left scuff marks all over my wood flooring. I could get the same vacuum cleaner but branded Eureka for a lot less money if thats what i wanted. For me, it's going back for a refund. My advise, stay away from this product. If it is an Electrolux you want (as i do) then be sure you buy the real item. Don't know why, but the real Electrolux is now called Aerus or something like that. Same great products but a different name now.

My 3 cents worth,

Actually Makes Vacuuming Easy!
I purchased the Electrolux Aptitude last month despite some bad reviews here. After using it for one month, I am thoroughly satisfied with it. This is the best vacuum that I have ever owned. It is a replacement for a Hoover V2 that literally fell apart. The Electrolux is much quieter, more solidly built and easier to maneuver. Hoover claims to outclean all other uprights but I find that this vacuum leaves the carpet cleaner and raises the nap of the carpet better. Also, there is no dust residue on the vacuum cleaner, the attachments, and wheels after using it whereas with the Hoover, even with it's HEPA filter, there was always dust.

In summary, I would recommend this cleaner; it's relatively light and very easy to use, quiet, great looking, cleans very well and leaves no dust after using it.

DON'T BUY THIS VACUUM OR THIS BRAND
This vacuum is not worth the money. My vacuum worked for two weeks before the belt broke and they do not carry belts at this time. According to a customer service representative they did not expect belts to malfunction so they are on backorder for the time being. When I called customer service I was told a number of stories, but in the end no one offered to help and I was told I would just have to wait for the parts to come in (about 3 months). According to an electrolux repairman, these are basically overpriced eurekas because this company paid for the electrolux name. My advice is to buy a bissell.

Mighty Mite
This stylish vacuum is light and compact but as powerful as the big lug-arounds. It leaves the carpet free of dirt and debris and fluffs up the pile like new; however, it's main advantages are it's quietness and dust free operation. Other HEPA vacuums that I have owned always had dust on them after I used them. This vacuum has virtually no dust on it after you use it and that's using the regular vacuum bag (there is a vacuum bag available that filters even more dust, etc.). The dust bag is extremely easy to change and has a "self-sealing" feature that prevents dust from escaping while it is being removed from the canister. I found no problems in assembling and disassembling the hoses, wands and accessories; so I don't know what the other users who reported a problem in this area were doing wrong. The only drawback is the "on-board" cleaning tool storage which fits awkardly on the outside of the canister but the compact size of the vacuum is more than an even trade-off for this shortcoming.

Really Nice Vacuum
I bought this vaccum after developing allergies for the first time. My parents have had an elextrolux for the past 25 years and it has always worked great. Although Eureka is now making these electrolux vaccums I expect that in order to preserve the integrity of the name they will make every effort to make sure this product line is up to standard, and I think they have succeded in this regard.
Contrary to the other reviews I took my vaccum home and was able to connect all of the pieces by myself without any problems. The bags are small, but so is the vaccum. If you want bigger bags chose an upright, but beware, the hepa filtration on those units is not as good. The filter and bags are easy to acess. The power head is very sturdy but has a little trouble standing on its own- it can do it, but will fall down with the slightest breeze.
The vaccum is very quiet. To test the suction I first vaccumed with my old vaccum and then revaccumed with this one. I was very impressed. I could hear every piece of sand and crumb climbing up the hose- and there was a lot!!! It even has a light so you can vaccum in the dark, or in a dark corner. The head seems to move itself effortlessly across the room.
If you are considering this machine, don't be afraid of the other reviews. I did not experience their woes.

Lasted less than 4 months!
The Dust Devil by Dirt Devil worked great for the 4 months I was able to use it. It suddenly stopped charging and eventually ran out of juice.

I have put this into my "Do not buy" list for breaking after an estimated 30 uses.

Great for hard surfaces.
I live in a 3 story house with mostly hardwood floors. This hand vac has been great for slurping up the dust that accumulates on the staircases and for picking up lint and dust on ceramic tile in the bathrooms and laundry. For dense carpeting, it's only so-so. If you have mostly hard floor coverings, this unit should do the trick.

For the Grandchildren
I purchased this product because of my Grandchildren and found that it works great. It picks up all their cookie and bread crumbs and my Grandson thinks it is great fun to do it himself, an added bonus.
