GOOD pickup, POOR impracticle features
The price tag you're looking at is for the features and everyone seems to be giving this vacuum a high rating on it's power performance ONLY. You can find a vacuum with better features and equal power for cheaper.

PROS: 1) Good suction 2) Easy to empty 3) Three filters 4) Hasn't clogged and I've sucked up a bag of flour and have brand new carpet.

CONS: 1) IT'S HEAVY 2) It's very bulky 3) The hose is way too SHORT which really surprised me. I tried to pull it out to suck something up and it barely reached pass the vacuum. As heavy as the vacuum is you'd think they'd make the hose longer so you could reach the messes. Not to mention that it only comes with one extension (plus a brush and a crevice tool) 4) The duster is VERY IMPRACTICAL. It's what made me try this model and I never use it now. The first time I used it I knew I would never use it again. When you put the duster back into the holder it pushes the bristles back and throws the dust everywhere. It doesn't get an electrostatic charge (at least mine never did) so dust really doesn't stick to it very well. It just moves the dust around. You're better off with a good old fashion feather duster.

So to sum it all up, it's heavy and awkward to use, but it has excellent sucking power. Don't buy this for the features, you can find a vacuum with equal power for the same price (or lower) that has better features.

Dog Hair Magnet
I own a 85lb German Shepherd that does a lot of shedding. I bought this vacuum based on some reviews written about it and can only reaffirm the positive comments on it. I opened the box and tried it right away and after 1 min I had to empty all the dog hair it had picked up. It works great and would recommend it to any pet owner that has problems with pet hair.

Excellent value
I have this vacuum in the Lite version {4388BT}. It picks up really well and I haven't had any problems. I've owned many brands of vacuums over the years and I compared them for many months before buying this one at [local store]. It could use a longer cord and hose. But, you can buy attachments, etc., if you look on-line. It may not be for heavy duty cleaning. For the [money] it cost it was a good value but is being discontinued.

Utilitarian
This vacuum is a fairly bare-bones unit. Like many lower cost units it has a rather short hose so you may have a hard time reaching areas. Also, the head of the vacuum continues to spin even when in the upright position.

It does have a nice sturdy feel and a powerful suction.

Best in this price range
Eureka 4331AX is a pretty easy to use cleaner. No problems with that.

Good Deals Still Exist
I had a lot of doubts about purchasing this machine. How good could it be? It's so cheap! Well, I couldn't be happier. It is light, compared to the competition. It even seems to propel itself. It has a tremendous amount of suction. Say good bye to dog hair! I had been using a dinosaur (a 20 year old Eureka) and with this machine in my hands, I feel like I've entered the new millennium. If you really don't need the bells and whistles of expensive machines, this is the way to go.

Power getter
This is a great little machine and it is a go getter. It is light and easy to move around. I have a bad back and I can handle this machine. It cleans my light colored rug like a champ. I have a black lab and it sucks up her hair from everything. The only problem is that I can't find Bags or belts for it. Even the store I bought it at don't have them.

A Nice Litttle Vacuum
I bought this vacuum because of the price and the fact that it is super light. I hate having to lug my big vacuum up or downstairs for a small minor clean up job. This machine is great for that. Spill a little dirt or have a quick clean up job, even on bare floors- then just pull it out. It is perfect to just whip around for a quick pick up. My only reason for not giving that last star is that the motor is really only 2 amps and this shows when you are trying to pick up something large. I tipped over a plant. The machine did great picking up everything except some of the larger leaf pieces.

All in all, I have found this machine very handy to have around and worth the price.

Ideal for Apartments
I was recently in the market for a new vacuum after my 10 year old Bissell died, so I decided to give this Eureka a try since it was on sale. It has turned out to be a great value for my money. I have two cats that I'm always cleaning up after and the Eureka easily sucks up pet hair, cat litter, and bits of dry cat food that sometimes make their way to the floor or carpet. And it does a much better job on the stairs than my old Bissell ever did. Best of all the Eureka is lightweight and does not take up much storage space, definitely a plus for me as I live in an apartment. On the other hand if you live in a house you may just want to have this for quick jobs where you don't need to use your big vacuum, as the dust cup has to sometimes be emptied midway through vacuuming one room. In all I highly recommend it.

Yellow and Sucky!
When I first saw this vacuum, I thought it looked VERY flimsy and VERY yellow. But after reading other people's reviews, it seemed to work well on pet hair and dust. And the fact that it's a bagless and with no HEPA made it even more attractive. I don't have allergies so I don't need that expensive filter. From past experience, HEPA filters get horribly clogged. And your vacuum loses suction power. So finding a vacuum that didn't have that feature made me so happy! So with all those considerations, I bought it.
I was amazed at how sturdy it was and how well it worked around my rabbit pen. It pick up ALL of my rabbit's hairs and pulverized calcium tablet bits. So I decided to try his spilled pellet litter. And it picked that up as well as the larger pellet food!
I then decided to vacuum the rest of my apartment should be pretty clean since I vacuum it everyday (kind of have to when you live with a rabbit). And it was even more amazing!!! The dust cup was more than half full with dust and hairs that my big vacuum missed.
Cleaning is easy. Just take off the dust cup and dump the dirt in the trash. There is a fine mesh screen filter (like the ones for lint in the dryer) and it seems to catch dirt just fine. And you can clean it by rinsing or you can replace it for just $2.99 when ordering from the manufacturer.
I don't know about this little vac's reliability but Eureka is a pretty good brand. And for $35-$40 bucks. I would just get another if this one broke or lost suction power.
And it's so cute! It really is a mini vacuum (not those lame stick vac brooms).

Not just for girlies
Very smart tool for cleaning just about anything. I cleaned my oven burners, floor tile, and have so much confidence in it that I will be cleaning my pool tile with it this weekend.

Floor Tile: I used the narrow brush tool to clean the .5" grout lines that I have in my kitchen and It looks like it removed a thin layer to make the them appear brand new. I went fairly slow and agitated with the brush while applying direct steam. I noticed a thin dust layer on the edges of the tile after I performed this which may be a the top layer of grout or the packed in dust - The grout looks fantastic, but I may need to limit how often I use this technique considering I may be taking off layers or the seal - but I'm very impressed with how effective this technique can be.

Cleaning the tile is a joy as well - This unit comes with two cloths that hook on to the floor tool that basically act as a catcher for dirt and dust. I would still recommend sweeping floors with heavy dust or debris first as you would if you were going to use a mop - the cloth picks up objects that stick to it - but anything too big will be pushed around. These cloths are very durable and I have washed one several times and it seems as good as new.

I have not used the tool as a steamer for clothing yet, but I am pretty confident it will work to get all the wrinkles out.

The times between refills seem to be a little over a half an hour. The process of re-filling the tank can be a little tedious considering you have to wait for the unit to cool down before opening the tank - I would compare the annoyance factor to waiting for a slice of pizza to cool down before chowing it - not a big deal.

The 370 is fun to use, has tools to do about anything, and will kick the crud out of any stubborn stains or dirt that have been plaguing you. If this thing doesn't beat it it probably needed to be replaced and not cleaned in the first place.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars - I would have given it 5 if it had come with a remote control and I could clean things from my couch.

Works well, not great owners manual.
This device looks well made comes with a bunch of mostly useful accessories and is very reasonably priced. To suggest that it doesn't work at all and is in essence a decorative Italian sculpture is simply incorrect.

The two keys to success with this steamer are first to let it fully warmup, the amber light may glow indicating that it's ready but often it needs a few more minutes before use. Secondly you must flush the water out of the system and make sure that only pure steam comes out. This is easy to do and see, with no attachments connected, simply depress the steam button hold the nozzle over a sink until only steam comes out.

I am able to get almost one half hour of use before refill enough time in my small home to mop the kitchen and bathroom floors, clean the toilet and bathroom sink. All tasks are done well with the satsifying and actually fun steaming process.

Work through the so-so manual, practice all the attachment hook-ups before you turn it on and you will have a super-clean home as a result.

Absolutely Wonderful!
This little thing is one of the best cleaning tools I've ever owned. It is easy to use (if you read the owner's manual first) and a gem--especially if you have someone in the house who is sensitive to chemicals as I do. But I can't stress enough that the Enviro-steamer cleans *better* than those chemicals ever did and leaves no odor behind, just clean floors (and bathrooms, and stovetops, and windows...). I have hardwood and tile floors throughout the place, and I've never found it so easy to clean them. It's also great for steaming the wrinkles out of just about anything.

One reviewer mentioned their thumb getting tired, but there's a switch lock that can be used to lock the steamer on as well as off (so you don't need to keep presssing the button down).

Just, as the other reviewers have said, let it heat up adequately (the amber light is only a thermostat from what I can tell), and let all the water out of the hose before attempting to steam anything. You'll find that when it's full of water you get less steam than when it's only half full of water (the water and the steam stay in the same reservoir), so I almost never fill mine completely--I've yet to find a cleaning job that required the full two cups of water-as-steam to complete.

Eureka 410
I liked this vacuum at first until the front blew out and I had to replace it under warrenty which was fine. The first one came with a foam filter and it was easy to clean, but the replacement came with a hepa filter which I found totally annoying. It was pleated and a terrible thing to try to clean. I also found that the replacement filter was twice as expensive as the foam and seems to only be available by mail. The company should have left well enough alone. I also have a problem with the handle being loose. I loved the light weight easy push, but I just can't stand that crazy filter......

Ignore the critics, this little baby is great!
We just got a beautiful large rug for our apartment, which is mostly hard wood floors. I had a hard time trying to find a vacuum cleaner that was smallish, yet worked well on carpet AND hard floors. None of the lightweights, handhelds or stick vacuums seemed to have the crucial double motor (one for the vacuum, one for the brush). When I came across this model, I thought it was probably too good to be true, but in desperation, I bought it anyway. I got it home, and it picked up (IN ONE PASS)all of the dog hair that had been piling up on the rug for almost 2 weeks. I brought it over to the hardwood and it worked equally as well. My roommate and I were AMAZED. I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about, but we both agreed it was one of the quietest vacuums we'd ever heard. My dog didn't bark at it once! The attachments worked equally well... finally got the dust off the curtains, corners, lamps, window sills and every other dusty place we didn't realize we had. It was almost fun to see how great it worked! People have complained about how if the filter gets dirty, it loses suction, but that is true with any vacuum, unless you have $400 to shell out on a Dyson. The only reason I gave it 5 stars instead of 4 is because the vacuum tends to topple over when using the hand tools, which is really no biggie at all.

Best lightweight I have owned
This purchase was to replace a useless cordless electric lightweight (Rowenta) which stopped working completely after 1 year. This has the most power of any lightweight I have owned. I like the wheels so that the machine does not scrape my wood floors. It picks up debris very well from wood floors, even between the cracks. I was able to use the extension to remove gnats which came in and were attracted to my ceiling. I was surprised that it had enough power to do this. Only negatives - initially, found the cup difficult to empty. After a few tries, it seems to be easier. The machine is noisy and a little on the heavy side but worth the tradeoff to get real power in a convenient little machine.

Its [bad]
I am amazed that this vacuum made it to market. It must have been pushed by the marketing dept and not the research dept. It works great for the first minute or two, until there is a inch or more of dirt against the 3x3 inch grill on the one side. All the air has to go thru the dirt in this one small area and the air flow goes to next to nothing and all suckion stops. If you want a bagless, get one with the grill vertcally between the two compartments. This gives a large enough space for the air to go thru and the wind action keeps the dirt from piling on the grill.

The little upright Dirt Devil has the same type of grill but it is just used for small clean ups so the dirt cup gets emptied often.

An okay vacuum but Hoover is better
This vacuum works good for picking up animal hair but its lousy for picking up embedded dirt thats not seen. The Hoover Windtunnel is much more effective, even the hoover bagless without the windtunnel technology will out perform the Eureka whirlwind.

This Vacuum SUCKS...In a good way!!!!!
Need a Vacuum buy this one.... simple enough!!!

The WORST vacuum EVER!!!!!!
I purchased this vac. at a local WalMart because of its low price and hepa filter. I have very bad allergies and I thought it would help! This vacuum actually made my allergies worse. It blows the dirt up like crazy. I had a major allergy attack the first couple times I used it. Now I have to have my boyfriend vacuum for me, and I have to leave the house so I don't have an attack. I have never had a vacuum make allergies worse, there suppose to pick up dust and dirt to make them better!!!!!! And if that is not bad enough, it overheats and shuts off every single time one of us uses it and smells up the whole house and we have to wait for it to cool down to continue vacuuming! We have now dumped it and are saving up for a new one. It's a total waste of money! DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM!!!!!!

Not Bad for the Money
I have only had this vacuum for about 6 months. So far, so good. It does tip over easily as someone pointed out, so I purchased a longer hose from Eureka.com. Yes, air from the unit blows dust around, but I've had two very expensive vacuums, A Miele and an Electrolux, that I didn't like as much as this one. When this one dies, I may try a Dyson, but for now, this is acceptable. I never had any clogging, smelling, or broken belts.

I love my vacuum
I've had this vacuum for over 5 years. The model I have is actually 4481, which is the 1998 equivalent to the 4496. The only troubles I've had is clogging. It has clogged twice in the five years of hard use. However if you refer to the manual, you can easily unclog it yourself. I have the same belt on since I bought it in 1998. The last time it clogged was because I tried to vacuum up several whole peanuts. I don't recomend vacuuming up peanut shells, however, I do recomend picking up this vacuum.

This Vacuum REALLY [is bad] (Not A Compliment!)
At the recommendation of a friend, I bought the Eureka Victory vacuum cleaner. Big Mistake! It doesn't pick up dirt well at all and anything larger than the most microscopic dust particle will remain on the floor for all eternity unless YOU pick it up. This vacuum cleaner is not the absolute worst I've ever seen, but it's darn close. And that's not a good thing. And it clogs up when the bag is LESS than half full! Don't waste your time, energy, anger or money on this one. It really [is bad].

Cleans well, but not good at edges
Easy to assemble. Not that hard to push or pull. One attachment has no storage area on the vacuum. Doesn't clean edges very well, either using the front or the sides (leaves an area about 0.25in uncleaned). Cord does not store very well due to the long lenth (which is appreciated). Carrying handle is a nice feature when bringing the vacuum up and down the stairs. All in all, a good value for the price.

Works great - the Dirt Alert is an awesome feature.
I guess I'm not as particular as others, or maybe my old vacuum was so bad that I just don't know any better - but I am extremely pleased with this vacuum.
It cleans awesome, and the Dirt Alert feature has really helped me to get the most out of the time spent vacuuming (even if it does take a little more time - knowing the carpet is completely vacuumed is well worth it).
The only reason I don't give this vacuum 5 stars is that it can be a little tricky to maneuver. I guess the wide cleaning path is partly to blame, but there is some benefit to that, too.
The vacuum is not heavy and was relatively easy to vacuum steps. The ulphostery attachment works very well at picking up pet hair.
Overall a great value if you are considering this as a replacement.

I thought I was buying a vacuum?
I don't get it - this vacuum picks up almost no dirt on carpet or tile floors, yet it manages to destroy any rug it's used on. This product sucks in every way other than the way it's supposed to.

DON'T BUY THIS VACUUM!!
After reading several reviews from buyers who seemed very happy with this vacuum, I went ahead and bought it for my elderly mother who has three cats. At first the vacuum seemed fine, in fact a really great value for the price, so my fiance bought another one for his mother. BIG MISTAKE. Don't be fooled into buying this like we were, especially if you have any animals in your home! The vacuum is constantly getting clogged with pet hair and overheats, then the motor stops working altogether. Initially, I thought there was a defect, but the warranty service center told me that some vacuums have a "tendency" to get clogged. Whenever this happens, I have to remove the cover and manually pull out the pet hair and dust from the tube. This weekly "maintenance" has become normal routine. What a nuisance! Last week I bought a baglass Hoover windtunnel, actually two, because I was so happy with the performance. The Eureka is going in the garbage after only six weeks of ownership, since it is of no use whatsoever. Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM.

Eureka the Boss...........DO NOT BUY IT!
I bought this vacuum july 19, 2003. It went to the dump on October 25, 2003. The vacuum is built poorly, the parts keep breaking. When the roller broke, that was the end......threw it away and bought a bissel.
