    good solid bags
I guess I was a little hesitant on reviewing about vacuum bags, but these are pretty good.

Though I know it may not be necessary for those without a Hoover Upright vacuum cleaner, and that they must be bought for a Hoover user, these are still good bags. If you are thinking of buying a vacuum cleaner, you should consider not only the power and quality of its cleaning power, but how easy it is to clean it's container or change its bags. And Hoover makes changing bags easy, plus the bags are quite strong. Did you ever see those garbage bag commercials where they test bags by rolling them down a hill? Well, these bags are stronger.

A great dirt bag shouldn't be a reason to buy the Hoover Vacuum, which is a great vacuum by the way, but it should be one of the considerations you make.

    Great Vacuum!
Just bought it about a month ago and it is working great. Cleans the cat hairs in one pass and is easily adjustable. When you push the handle upright the beaters turn off, very nice feature, especially for using the attachments, like cleaning stairs! (need the long hose though) This is the first self propelled vacuum we've had, and I like it. When cleaning bare floors, the beater rolls along the floor, sometimes pushing dirt away, and you can't use the self propelled on bare floors either. However, it does a decent job on bare floors. The powered hand tool worked great, for 10 minutes, then it seized up. I just havent had the chance to get it replaced, but i don't forsee a problem. I've seen a lot of complaints about emptying the Hoover bagless container, I've never had a problem because i take it outside and stand upwind of it when i dump it in the big can! There is also a filter cleaning device which helps, but doesn't do the job 100%. Very Happy with this purchase!

    Excellent!
I just got the Hoover windtunnel self propelled bagless upright and absolutely love it. I was going to get the hoover upright that wasn't self propelled, however, this one was on sale and the same price. I am so happy I did. I am no weakling, but the self propelled feature is wonderful to use. It doesn't move by itself, but assists as you gently guide it along. I never thought I would need or like self propelled but now I'm hooked.

We have 3 cats in our household so I clean several times a week. I filled the canister with cat "fuzz" just from the family room. I never realized just how poorly my old vacuum cleaned, or else this one cleans better than imaginable. The bagless feature is great, not only is it easy to remove and dump but I like the dial that cleans the hepa filter. You just turn the dial and dump the dust that is brushed off the filter, and there was a lot of dust! I never had a bagless vacuum before, but when I dumped the canister, I saw that I had vacuumed up some change and the back of an earing. If I had used a bagged model they would have been thrown away.

The hand held tools are so easy to use. Just put the hoover in the upright position and the suction goes to the hose. Everything is so easy and straight forward even my husband could use it without ever looking at the manual first. I don't think I will ever enjoy vacuuming, but now I don't consider it a chore.

    A very good vacuum
I purchased this vacuum after my old Fantom one bit the dust (no pun intended). The Hoover vacuum has some really nice features that I looked for when researching which vacuum to buy. Some new features I liked was I didn't need to unravel the entire cord from the vacuum in order to get to use the on-board attachments (big plus), the canister to pulls out VERY easily to empty the dirt and loads back in VERY easily (unlike my old vacuum that I had to play with the cansiter for 5 minutes until it clicked into place). This Hoover vacuum also has the rotating brush attachment which is very nice for my staircase. The only things I would change if I could would have to be the weight of the vacuum (very heavy to lift up & down the stairs). I would also like to see the dirt empty out from the canister easier. There are too many little crevises for the dirt to attach to & it ends up not falling out properly so I have to get my hands dirt to empty it properly. Other than those two things, I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this model to anyone wanting a very good quality vacuum. Also, a top magazine company rated this vacuum excellent which is why I seeked out this model.

    Belt replacement
i have used my HOOVER SELF PROPELLED WIND TUNNEL one time. It is only 5 days old. Wide propelling belt busted spewing black rubber crumbs all over my carpet. I found a store about 10 miles from my house that sold replacement belts. I followed the instructions which look simple on paper. The four screws were a cinch. My husband, my daughter, and my brother have had no luck replacing the belt after fighting with it for more than 2 hours. This is a very poor design. There should be a side hatch that opens to expose what you are working on.

    NOT FOR THE WEAK!!
I have owned this machine for almost 2 years and I dread taking it out of the closet every time. It weighs a ton and is EXTREMELY difficult to lift, so if you have stairs, be prepared.
You'll soon see why the "self-propelled" feature is so important.

It has performed well, though...cleaning up after 3 cats and 2 dogs. The bags are expensive and the final HEPA filter is about 8-9 bucks, but worth it if you're trying to stay one step ahead of the pet hair.

Other than the excessive weight, there are a couple of other things that make using this vacuum a chore...

The hose is ridiculously short and this thing will tip easily, so trying to reach under furniture with an attachment becomes risky business and being thumped in the head by the handle gets old fast.

The carpet height adjustment is located on the front of the machine and it is a sliding bar. Trying to adjust for carpet heights is no easy task. You have to stop the machine, go around to the front and the little lever gives a fight before it surrenders. I generally just turn it off to make this itty-bitty adjustment.

The body is large and bulky and doesn't cruise around furniture easily. Cumbersome.

The little headlight on the front is nifty and the embedded dirt finder is pretty cool, too.

All in all, it does what a vacuum cleaner is made to do, however, this is not a machine for everyone. Hauling this big boy out every day for a quick clean-up is no delight. I would recommend this machine when Hoover has trimmed about 8-10 pounds off of its weight and has streamlined the design a little bit.

    Hope this helps someone. :-)

It was the best of vacs, it was the worst of vacs.
And because of this, it gets three stars. Everybody liked using this thing because of the mesmerizing red/green clean light feature. It was great to be told when to move on from a dirty spot. It moved gracefully and was a joy to use overall.

And then, the belt came off. And then it came off. And came off. And...you get the picture. And I know this is not unusual for this model. So, we're bailing. I have a Thermax canister as well that's terrific for cleaning, but like calf-roping to use.

Hoover Bagless? We call it the Hoover Worthless!
We quickly discovered our Hoover Bagless machine had problems, but not until the store's 30 day return policy had expired. Repeated e-mails asking for advice/help turned into repeated e-mails from us complaining of problems with both the product and the total lack of response from Hoover. We've attempted to discuss our problems with Hoover, but we've received no response back. The Hoover has been relegated to cleaning the floors in the garage where I keep my antique car collection. We bought a different brand for the house.

Each time we started the Hoover, we first had to position the suction hose near the dirt cannister to catch the dust that flew out whenever the unit was first turned on. With 2 cats, we too were lured by advertising hoopla into the idea that this unit could handle the cat hair. Sure it can, but it means replacing an expensive ($30) filter about 6 to 8 times a year. You do the math - in a couple of years the cost of filters exceeds the cost of the Hoover!

Cleaning the "bagless cannister" is very messy, make sure you do it outside and on a calm day! We'll take a "bag type" anyday!
We've noticed that in all the Hoover bagless advetising we've seen on tv, The person using the bagless Hoover is picking up what looks like confetti. That's right, little pieces of paper. Not dirt, pet hair. etc. Any vac can pick up pieces of paper!

    Great picker upper but.........fragile
We have 2 St. Bernards and our other vacuum was not picking up all the hair and our carpeting was not looking like it was even vacuumed. I read some very good reviews from dog owners and decided to go with it. It was the greatest thing since sliced bread for the first 6-8 months. Now all is does is break. I have had it to an authorized service 6 times in the past 8 months and I still have the same problems so now I am stuck with an expensive vacuum that has to go for a regular maintenance every 4-6 weeks. Love the pick up but not the problems!!

    Kirby vs. Hoover
I bought a Kirby vacuum cleaner for a hefty price over 20 years ago. Although, it's made to last a lifetime, the weight of it makes it very cumbersome & it's a real pain to attach the attachments. With regular maintenance, it's lost it's suction power. My husband bought me a Hoover Self-Propelled Bagless Windtunnel almost a year ago & I LOVE it! It has great suction power (even when using the hose), the Self-Propelled feature is wonderful, I love not having to buy & change bags & the onboard attachments are real convenient. I have to empty the canister & clean the filter about once a month. If you have major dirt, animal hair, etc., you may have to clean it more often. The downside to this vacuum is the hose for the attachments doesn't stretch enough & the small brush attachment is too small. The bristles need to be longer & thicker.

Another disappointing vacuum for the bucks
The one great thing about this vacuum is that it does a excellent job of cleaning carpeting. I haven't had a problem with clogging or hair gathering around the brush, since my one pet has very short hair. The WindTunnel V2 is very heavy, carrying it up and down stairs is awkward, and you definitely have to have some upper arm strength to guide it across carpeted areas. On wood/tiled floors, it's suction is definitely less effective.

Like so many others here on Amazon, my main problem is with the errant dust and dirt flying when you empty the dirt canister--it sends me into sneezing fits. The canister is removed easily enough, but it's very obvious that the filter is not thoroughly cleaned, and it's also a messy process. I'm keeping it (inertia is a powerful force), but I wouldn't recommend this vacuum. Keep looking!

    Makes vacuuming easy!!!
I bought the Hoover WindTunnel V2 Bagless and couldn't be happier. My place is as clean as ever. The carpets look brand new. Hardwood floor is dirt/dust/dog fur free. The agitation and suction this vacuum has is incredible. This thing picks EVERYTHING up. Two agitators are definitely better than one and now I can see why. I really like the attachments that come with it so I can vacuum the stairs and even my furniture easily. The bagless system makes it a snap to empty the dirt and dust collected....and boy does this thing suck up a ton of dirt and dust. Just don't tell the guys that I'm sitting here raving about vacuums!!!!

It makes this husband want to vacuum
When our two year old Eureka went dead, my wife told me we needed to get a new vacuum cleaner. The fugle shopper that she is, she didn't want to spend a lot on a new vacuum. As I usually do before a purchase, I research the quality and effectiveness of various vacuum cleaners both online and in stores. I knew that I wanted a bagless cleaner and the Hoover windtunnels was always the recommended brand. Even a [store] salesman recommended this model over a higher priced Kenmore.
I told my wife that we could either by a[less expensive] vacuum cleaner every other year -- which requires continual purchases of vacuum bags -- or we can spend a little more for a good bagless vacuum cleaner that will last five or more years.

We bought the WindTunnel V2 (U8130-900) and we do not reget spending one penny of the price. We immediately saw the difference in the cleaning power of the wind tunnel. They are a little heavier then other upright cleaners, but its performance more than makes up for the extra weight. Since most of the uprights are 12 Amps, I know the the amount of Amps does not disclose the amount of suction power a cleaner has. Hoover has a numbering system that gives you a rating of the suction power. The higher the number the greater the suction. This allows you to compare the cleaning power of all of its models. The highest I've seen so far is a rating of 31. The V2 has a rating of 29.0 -- plenty of power. It also is beltless, no more burning smell because your belt is not properly turning; or having to go search for a store that sells the right belt for your particular brand and model. As mentioned in most review of this model, its canistor is large enough to hold plenty of dirt and allows you to dispose of the dirt from one side without removing the HEPA filter which is housed in the opposite side of the dirt container. The handle is well designed with its power button within reach of your fingertip. It also has an oval opening at the top of the handle that allows it to be lifted. The handle reclines parallel to the floor which makes cleaning uder furinture a little easier. It also has a switch to turn of the beater brushes while cleaning the floor. Although my vacuum cleaner is fairly new, 5 Sept 02, and has not been battle test by time, I do know the various filter prevent any dust or odors from being released. This makes for cleaner air, which is good for any alergy victims or thoughs who have babies and small children about the house.

The only things I wish Hoover would have added are the power hand brush, an extra hose and a retractable power cord. The handbrush can be purchased as an accessory and comes with the higher WindTunnel V2 model which cost [a bit more]. The higher V2 model is essentially the same vacuum cleaner except that it comes with the powered brush and can be used with or without a bag; I assume the bag would provide added filtration. The power brush also comes with a lower model that is not a V2 and has a suction rating of 27. The extra hose would be handy for dusting high spaces, cleaning stairs, or getting around the interior of your vehicle. Since I have to nit-pick to find a few cons, it says a lot about this vacuum cleaner.

In conclusion, I recommend this vacuum cleaner to those who could afford to put up the money for it. If the WindTunel's quality is as good and long lasting as many people have told me, in the long run it should save you money -- no bags, no belts, and no [lower priced] vacuum cleaners ever few years. it's enough to make a husband want to vacuum; it has in this family.

    WHAT A LEMON!!!
We bought this vacuum because we thought Hoover had a good reputation. What a mistake! The first time we used it, the motor burned out. Hoover replaced the motor. It worked okay for a year (nothing spectacular) and then the suction stopped working. We got it in to be repaired just before the warranty expired. We used it twice after the repair and now it smells like it's burning when we use it. Our cheapo Eureka that is 10 years old works better than this vacuum. I wish I had read the reviews on here before wasting my money.

    Pathetic vacuum w/ poor workmanship
I bought this vacuum couple of weeks back and the unit will not turn on for some reason. So I returned it for a replacement, the other unit failed the very second day yielding extremely poor vacuum. Amazon denied replacment of the same again stating that this problem seems to be more widespread than expected so they cannot give another`replacement but I wonder` why they are still selling it especially for such a high price! But I must say, amazon has a great customer service since they have paid for shipping the item 4 times considering the fact that this item is heavy and weighs 30 pounds!

BUY anything from amazon BUT this Hoover!

    DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM!!!!!!
Its heavy and loud. You might be okay if you dont have kids, animals and a head of hair. It gets clogged and you have to take the whole vacuum apart to unclog. Than it just clogs again. And hair get wrapped around the bearings on the brushes and then melts and fuses the bearing together than you have a wonderful option of paying 90 bucks to have it fixed or just throw the junk away!!! Dont buy this vacuum!!! And if you write Hoover with your problem, they will not respond!!

    Worst Hoover Yet
I purchased this Hoover less than one year ago. It kept getting clogged with dust and carpet fiber; in order to remove the clogs the bottom had to be unscrewed and the roller brushes removed. After doing this several times the plastic that held the screws became stripped and the bottom literally fell off. Since the clogging was apparently a design flaw, I did not have the vacuum repaired but replaced it with an Electrolux Aptitude. Well there is no comparison! The Electrolux is much quieter, cleans just as well and raises the nap of the carpet better is better looking and better constructed. Disassembly does not require a screwdriver so there is no problem with stripped plastic like the Hoover. The Electrolux also comes with a better variety of cleaning tools and a power-driven brush. Admittedly, the Electrolux is slightly more expensive but it is worth the difference.

Not what I expected from a Hoover
Both my mother and I have had hoovers, and we have had the best results from them. I currently live in a one room house with 2 dogs, a cat, and a laundry room with access for the landlords 3 cats that I often vacuum for her. I was immediately impressed by the suction of this vacuum, however after a few months it inevitably locked up and wouldn't work. Like all the other reviewers, we found that not only was it clogged but the plastic had melted and locked up the wheel.
I ALSO STRONGLY DON'T RECCOMMEND THE BAGGED, or any bagged with this design. The bag is very small so I end up changing it all the time, and it is very akward to get in. I also read the reviews for the bagless and they had the same problems with melting as the bagged (reccommend you read these also- theres more of them).
I am surprised hoover let this vacuum get out their store.

It sucks ...... up the dirt
I really like mine. I have had it a couple of months now, and it works much better than my old one. I like the ability to turn the brushes on and off which works well on my tile. Also the automatically turn off when the handle is fully up, which is great for using the hose on the furniture or baseboards.
