Light But Strong
I was looking at Oreck's upright vacuums (because I wanted a light, but strong vacuum) and then I found this Bissell Prolite rated better in Consumer Reports. I decided to try it and I love it. The upright is light, has great suction, and is $150.00-$250.00 cheaper than the Orecks I was looking at buying. It is a little loud, but still worth it. I definitely recommend this vacuum pair!

A true dynamic duo
I grew tired of pushing around my 10 year old vacuum that weighed a ton, so this time around I wanted something lightweight but powerful. This combo pack with the Prolite and Propartner was the answer to all my cleaning needs. The Prolite is so lightweight and easy to use, but really picks up the dirt. There are two fans for increased airflow (yes, I did my research) and this really helps for edge cleaning around baseboards. I can actually watch the dog hair being sucked up. I use it on my carpet and hard surfaces, and it works wonderfully.

When I was looking into purchasing a vaccum I noticed that the Prolite didn't have any tools or attachments, which was something that concerned me. Bissell has solved that problem by including the Propartner canister vacuum. I use this to clean the stairs, upholstery, and even my car. It has a switch on the handle to adjust the suction power which is really neat. I also love the retractable power cord. Why hasn't anyone else thought of that yet?

Between the lightweight (but powerful) Prolite and Propartner canister vacuum, the dirt in my house no longer stands a chance. If you're looking for a new vacuum, give these a chance and I know you won't be disappointed.

My son's new babysitter
My son is a huge Scooby Doo fan. When I saw this Scooby vacuum on Amazon I had to get one for him, and he loves it. The bonus is that to him it's a toy, but he's also cleaning at the same time. It does a great job for such a little vacuum. I find myself stealing it from his room to use in the kitchen. I think Bissell makes a plain version that I'm going to have to get for myself. This is a great gift item for any Scooby fan.

Gets to the Root
Bissell's 499 Little Green Compact Multipurpose Cleaner cleans really deep and fast. It is very effective and smells good. Our dog likes it too!

Smells Like Heaven....
This is amazing cleaning solution. It works wonders on tought stains. It smells wonderful. I use this solution with my Hoover Steamvac and with my Little Green Clean Machine. Anytime someone comes over, they remark on that wonderfully refreshing scent that pervades my home. Not only does it smell good, it cleans amazingly.

With the help of my machines, this solution lifts out tough grime with a cinch. Small stains dissapear instantly and it leaves the carpet soft and fluffy to the touch. This is a great solution, and it is pretty much the best one out there. Don't settle for less than the best.

Better than warm water
I have a white carpet that cleans with warm water. Unfortunately what looks clean does not have that just laid look and feel that this product brings to life. It is easy to handle and dispense. Having a dial for the concentration on the Bissell one can place concentrates where needed. So this bottle can last for the entire house in most cases

Excellent cleaning ability but much noisier than a cannister
I bought this vacuum in March 2002 in an attempt to find the best of both worlds - my husband prefers an upright, I prefer a cannister. The vacuum does an excellent job in cleaning. I especially appreciate the filtration of the bags and the filter. The air in the house does not smell or feel dusty after vacuuming as it did with all of our other vacuums and the house stays cleaner longer. This vacuum is extremely noisy compared to my old Eureka cannister. My husband says it is quieter than most uprights and that I find it noisy because I'm used to a cannister model. With an upright, the motor is in front of me, so I hear the roar all the time. With the cannister, the motor was several feet behind me when I cleaned. Even in Lift Off mode, the loud motor is always next to me. My compromise is to wear those foam ear plugs to buffer the sound while cleaning. I am not able to vaccum underneath the furniture as well with this Lift Off model because it has a higher profile than the powerhead on my old cannister. Overall we are happy with our purchase and feel that this is a good value. Would I buy this model again? Probably not. When this one wears out I'll look for a cannister model with the filtrete clean air technology (or similar).

GREAT VACUME!
I have always had truble with vacumes! This one is soooooo powerful and I've had it for about a year now and its still great

Absolutely the best vacuum on the market.
I liked my first cannister/upright Bissel vacuum so much that I purchased a second one. This is the best vacuum, for the home, on the market. Believe me, I have tried them all. The bags are expensive but the vacuum is so good that I tolerate the price of the bags, plus the cost of the vacuum is very inexpensive considering the quality. A very nice feature is the long cord. You can plug it in and vacuum several rooms without having to unplug, then plug in again. It is a quiet vacuum, has wonderful suction, snaps apart easily for the cannister so you can vacuum the stairs, and is very durable. My older one is about ten years old and just as good as the day I got it. My second one is one year old and I am sure it will last many years.

Best for pet owners!
This vacuum blew my dirt devil out of the water. As soon as I got it, I put it together in 5 minutes, and started vacuuming. This thing will make your carpet look like it's been professionally cleaned when you are done. 7 height settings make it easy to adjust to the carpet from room to room. It has a feature that stops the brushes when the vacuum is left upright so that your carpet does not get burned. It's easy to lift off and has powerful suction. You know those fuzzies and lint balls that just will not come out of the carpet unless you pull them out with your fingers? Not anymore! THis thing sucks them right up! My carpets have never looked this good after a single vacuuming session. I couldn't believe how much animal fur came out after the first run over. This thing is AWESOME! I recommend it to pet lovers and families alike! Get one for yourself and see how amazing this is!

Happy Cleaning in Lexington, SC
This vacuum is great. The suction is incredible. I thought my carpets were being cleaned by my old machine but the first time I used this machine, I found out differently. This cleaner sucked up so much dust that I was unaware was even in the house. The detachable canister is awesome. I don't have to lug the entire awkward vacuum up the stairs to clean them. I like the bag-free function. It is easy to clean and easy to clean the filters. Now, my only complaint is that this vacuum, especially the canister, is a bit heavier than I expected but after all, it is a vacuum. Well worth the money... especially with free shipping.

I enjoy vacuuming now??? WOW
I wanted to wait to write my review to see how this machine would perform. I have had it about 3 months now, and I am really pleased with my purchase. My dirt devil deluxe upright, died after 10 years....so needless to say, it was time for a new vacuum, and I was READY.

I did a lot of investigating as to what type I wanted. I couldn't decide if I wanted to try a canister or stick to the upright type.

When I found this "lift off" vacuum, it was so exciting because it did EVERYthing I wanted it to do. I use it on med. pile carpeting, hard wood floors, linoleum, and large to small throw rugs with varied piles. It has many different height levels with which to clean at. It cleans like I haven't been able to clean for a LONG time. The carpet looks new again after every vacuuming. Tt picked up things I didn't even see. It was pretty scary the first time I used it...yikes...what it picked up that the other one was leaving behind, whoa! It was also very easy to assemble, I did it myself without my husbands help, and it was a piece of cake.

It has some powerful suction and rotor brush on it too. I like that you can turn the rotor off and use it on hard floors like wood or linoleum, the other day it stuck to the kitchen floor the suction was so powerful :-). The rotor automatically turns off when you put your vacuum in the upright position and stop vacuuming for a minute. When you turn the rotor back on, it takes off practically on its own, with very little pushing, its a joy to push around. It does not come across as heavy to me, and I am a small person.

I also like the detachable canister. This also comes in handy if your kids have legos laying around and you suck one up like I did. I can rescue it easily. This aspect of the vacuum is SOOO nice. It detaches with a little lever, you dump out the junk, and put it back on with ease. I love not having to change bags anymore. But here is also where I found my complaint.

It may just be that I am not used to this type of system yet. But I thought that the container filled up very fast. I have to learn to pay more attention to it, or the dust bunnies start getting up into the filter area too high, and you have to scoop it out with your fingers, and it tends to get the dusty fuzz all over your floor if you are not careful, and you will have to re-vacuum what fell out. Just an FYI, if you are used to bags in your vacuum, you will have to keep a closer eye on this type of system.

Well after I left the dirt container on too long 1-2x like I mentioned, the filter and filter housing had to be cleaned out. However, this job is actually quite easy. The filters come out very easily for cleaning. The main filter (the one that got backed up) is a foam ring in side a plastic housing...it is washable. I already took it apart and cleaned it with water, and it looked like new after it dried. It returns to its location with ease.

With this purchase I got the little shark vacuum as a bonus, and I used it to vacuum the filter housing with its little pointy attachment. That also worked GREAT.

One other small complaint that I have found is the length of the cord. I don't feel it is quite long enough, or maybe I'm just lazy, but I find myself unplugging it more often than I did my old dirt devil. I do like (and use) the quick release lever for the cord. I just wish there was a quick way to wind up the cord :-/...oh well.

I do feel that the price of this unit is very reasonable for the quality and usefulness of this vacuum. Shipping with Amazon was free, plus I got that little shark hand vac. I would definetely recommend this vacuum to someone. At the middle of the road price range, I think this is a sweet treat to work with. It is a nice sparkly red machine that zooms along!! Plus it does so many extra things with all its attachments and the lift off system can go up the stairs with ease.

I am sure that there are more expensive vacuums out there that may claim to be more powerful, but I didn't want to spend more money...and I am VERY happy with my Bissell purchase. Plus I like to see my carpets looking so new after I clean them, so I clean them more often just to see it do its job...its a good feeling...to WANT to vacuum eh? That may wear off after awhile though ;-)

The Perfect Apartment Vacuum
First of all, although this has nothing to do with the quality of the product I was very impressed that I received it only a day after I placed my order - even with the free ground shipping.

That aside, this little bissell cleaning machine is great! Now I know why Bissell is so highly regarded in the vacuum world. It has a cute, compact design and although some parts look cheap (it is plastic afterall) the cleaning power is amazing.

I live in an apartment with hardwood floors and large area throw rugs. The vacuum has a floor setting + a rug setting and they both work perfectly. I'm so relieved I no longer have to tackle my hardwood or kitchen floors with the broom and dustpan.

I also have two cats and the amount of hair, dust and fur the vacuum picked up after one quick sweep was incredible.I didn't realize how much invisible dreck I was living with. The easy-to-empty translucent dust cannister is great for that instant gratification of seeing how much dust/dirt it collects. Overall, I'm am more than satisfied with the value and quality of this product.

smart design, good suction
I received my Bissell 6700 about a week ago from Amazon. I really love it. I used to have an upright with HEPA filtering. But it was heavy, hard to use and really didn't have very good suction even though it had a 12 AMP motor. This one is small, easy to lift (very nice handle), easy to get into corners, and the cup really motivates! The 20-foot power cord is long enough for me. I have both hardwood floors and carpet and it does an excellent job on both. The only negative thing is that you have to watch out for some static electricity on the plastic dust cup. But that is really a minor issue for such a good and cheap! canister vacuum

I wish I had one LONG ago!!
My house is 3000SQ of tile and wood flooring. I used to use an old Hoover Spirit that sucked. Not in the good way! One day, I was helping to clean a friends place and guess what SHE had? A Bissell Butler. I was mezmerised by the cyclonic action of the collection cup. that thing SUCKED.. yes, in a good way!
So, I began to do my research and found them at Amazon for less than half of what I could purchase it for elsewhere. I bought it back in August 03. I live near the top of the everglades. Winds bring in dust and ashes from the sugar cane fields.I have dogs and cats, and love to work out in the garden myself. So, My house can get pretty gritty. I use this every few days.. It takes about an hour to vacuum just about every bit of floors, window dressings, baseboards. I have to empty the cup about twice sometimes 3 times. I've had it this long, what almost 8 months and have yet to need to change the bag. the only things in there that I can tell is a little cat litter.. bits of dry pet food and smaller hard pieces of God knows what.. But the bag isn't even a 10th full!
It has an extra long retractable cord. it's easy to pull around after yourself in the house. It has to be nudged around corners. The shaft/handle is adjustable. I do have some area rugs that are short pile. This does very well on them, But It doesn't have a rotary head to do large/deep napped rugs/carpets.
The only complaint that I have really is I would rather have a floor attachment that has brushes all around the edges.. rather than just in the center.. I don't like the sound of the plastic scraping the floor if I didn't readjust the head back from the throw rugs.
Still, I recommend it!!

Bissell 35931 Not so great
I am not all that happy with the Bissell 35931. The actual vacuum to me, has'nt any umph or power. It does alright vacuuming low carpet, but regular carpet, forget it! And hardwood floors or linoleum, you better be wearing shoes. Because if you are bare foot, your feet will have a nice loofa scrub from the back fire. As for the hose, the suction is awful and hardly picks up a thing. You have to be right on top of the object to pick it up. And the hose does not come with an upholstery attachment. Not worth the money. I am returning my 35931. Thank You.

"Great Vacuum"
Having a mutt that sheds so much that she should be bald by now is one of the main reasons why I went out today and bought the Bissell PowerTrak. I bought a Dirt Devil MVP Swivel Glide a few years ago and my wife doesn't even want to use it. It just doesn't pick up pet hair or anything very well. So I started doing some research on the web. I was looking at the Dyson, way to much money, then the Hoover WindTunnel but the reviews were not too good. Then I found the PowerTrak. I checked reviews here on Amazon, consumer sites and even sites for women where they had a forum and were discussing vacuums. I saw nothing but good news so I had to have it. I would have bought it at Amazon but I was having company coming soon. Now that I have it this is what I think.
It was very easy to assembly, basically 3 screws. My wife had just finished vacuuming the three bedrooms so that was my test. Holy cow, I filled the cup fast on the first room. You can visually see it cleaning right away. Lots of pet hair and dust.
I notice very fine dirt of dust coated the bottom of the cup a quarter of an inch thick.
It was loud but not much louder then any other vacuum I had. I love the easy way to take the cup out, slide the little handle and pull the cup out. It's light and has nice tools.
The cord does get in the way a little and this vacuum might not be good for the very old to maneuver but it was easy for the wife and I to use. This baby has a lot of power and features for a vacuum at this price and I won't be buying vacuum bags anymore. I would have filled one up today with the little that I vacuum with the PowerTrak. At first my wife was upset when I told her about buyer it until she saw what it did. I hope I helped someone out.
Joe

Powertrak is powerful!
I was amazed at the amount of dirt this vacuum picked up in my first round with it outside of the box. Then I went over the floor again and it picked up the same amount. My carpet looks different now. Vey easy to assemble out of the box. Thanks for making a great product., as Bissell always does.

4 months is all I can take
I bought this vacuum from amazon in Dec 2003 and I have used if for 4 months. I can not recommend this vacuum to anyone. First, I have more bare floor than carpet, and as stated by at least one other reviewer, this vacuum does poor on barefloors. There is no way to turn off the high powered brush so any dirt gets flicked hard out the back of the vacuum. If you were shorts you can feel it and it stings... Why would they market this vacuum for bare floors and carpets when they must have known that it is useless at cleaning bare floors?

As for the hepa filter, I am sure it works well for the air and dirt that gets sucked up, but since 60% of the debree gets thrown behind the vacuum, the hepa filter has not effect. I just vacuumed and I am now sneezing. I don't consider myself as having allergies either...

So what about carpet? It actually works well on carpet. It sucks up the dirt and gets the carpet clean. The reason I can not recommend the vacuum even though carpets get cleaned is that the vacuum is loud. When you lift it up or move it around objects the vacuum sounds like an alien screeming. I really big disrespectful alien.

There are so many vacuums out there. Why choose this one?

Simply Amazing
I have only owned this Bissell for three days but can't imagine $80's better spent. This vacuum is amazing. After wasting $400 of our hard earned money on a useless Oreck, I decided to research my next vacuum purchase based solely on customer reviews...the people that really count. This Bissell proved the reviews I read were 100% on target once I put it to the true test of vacuuming our home. We have five animals and the hair that accumlates in our home is proof of that. So the day I recieved the Bissell (it took less than 5 minutes to put together) I immediately vacuumed to see if what all those reviews said were true...AND THEY WERE! I vacuum on a daily bases but after vacuuming one room with this Bissell for the first time I couldn't believe the amount of HAIR,dust,&dirt it sucked out of our carpet. It looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in months. It was instant gratification to see all that it sucked up into the container. The carpet does actually look cleaner, it does get into the corners/crevices where the rug meets the wall, and the on board hand tools are VERY convenient. If all that wasn't enough to convince me I had bought the right vacuum I had no doubts when my husband starting vacuuming the house to see how much was getting sucked up in the container. This is my first bagless and I love it. The ONLY thing that I would have like to see different is the height of the vacuum it is on the short side.

If you need a vacuum you have to get this Bissell for $80 you can't go wrong.

Good buy for the money
My Fantom upright, which I loved, died on me (I accidently broke off the handle, rendering it useless.) At first, I thought I would just buy another Fantom, until I saw the really poor reviews for it here. My mother recommended the Dryson, but I can't afford that. And the Hoover reviews were so bad I didn't bother to consider it anymore.

I already own a Bissel carpet cleaner, which we're happy with, so I decided to try the Bissel Cleanview. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a vacuum and this was the right price. And I have to admit, the ease of which you can remove the dirt container really won me over.

I brought it home and even though I vacuumed yesterday, I vacuumed again, just to try it out. And got a bunch of dirt and dog hair up instantly. It was also insanely easy to put together. I'm not sure what other reviewers are talking about with the cord length, I found it to be just fine - just as long as my Fantom's cord. As for tools, I only ever really used the long nozzle - if I need more I can bring out my Fantom canister vac.

Yes, it's a little loud...but really, how many quiet vacuums are out there. I found it really easy to push, even lifted it up with one hand as I had the baby on my hip. And all vacuums need some maintenance now and then.

To sum up - if you don't have a lot of money to spend, get this vacuum. The suction's great, it's easy to handle, I'm happy with it.

Reviewer has a good point, HEPA of very poor design
The Reviewer makes an excellent point! This unit will not provide HEPA filtration of exaust air. So if you are buying this unit due to allergies or based on the procaimed HEPA filtration you would do best to pass this unit up. However as a normal vacuum, the unit is very good. Due to its small size it is very easy to manuver through tight spots. Suction is very good as well as the power head. The hose is of poor quality and tends to kink, but all in all a good vacuum. They just shouldn't claim HEPA filtration as the previous reviewer (mictrik) has pointed out so well. These days it isn't hard to find vacuums with HEPA filtration so passing this unit up wont be to big of a loss. Fix this issue and Bissell would have a true star.

If you don't care about HEPA filter - quite good choice
Ok. I reported "air flow problem through power cord attachment place" to the Bissell and that's what they gave me:

"I have been advised that the air release you describe is in the design of the machine and this issue is not unique to your vacuum. It is normal for some air to pass through the filter and some to vent from the bottom of the machine.

The air that passes through the HEPA filter captures over 99.9% of dust mites, pollen, and ragweed."

No offence to the customer support agent she just gave information what she had to give (provided by tech department, I believe)

But still.. this is a crap. How come HEPA filer could work if more than 90% of airflow goes not through the filter?!

If you do not care about HEPA filter, it still very good choice - it's quiet, has a nice look, very good telescoping pipe.

works great on my hardwood floors
Originally, bought this the first time I saw it at Linens-N-Things, then decided to see if I could find it cheaper online. Cheapest I could find was the J&R Music and Computer World price at Amazon, but when I read the customer review that said, despite its claims, it didn't actually work on hardwood floors, I decided I had better test out the one I'd already bought since ALL I have are hardwood (90%), vinyl, and a bit of ceramic tile.

IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY ON MY HARDWOOD FLOORS, picked everything up, and I have not admittedly swept or vacuumed them since before Thanksgiving, PLUS I had just gotten rid of some cats, so there was litter to sweep up - just make sure the beater bar is turned off, but the suction is turned on (which it is not turned on out-of-the-box), either that or you have a defective product.

On top of that, it's lightweight, swivels nicely, is quiet (as vacuums go), easy to lug about the apartment, has strong suction power, the bag appears to be easy to replace, and the attachments are fabulous - I actually prefer the smaller size. The trim around my floors is carved and caked w/years of re-painting; so, it was hard to clean them w/a rag - the crevice tool worked like a charm. I also cleaned a couch w/rather rough upholstery, two chairs w/smooth, silky upholstery, and a my computer chair with the upholstery attachment; as well as sweeping the window sills and attempting even to sweep the blinds with the dusting attachment. All of them rated 5 star in my book...

So unless you are really super duper concerned w/all that HEPA filter jazz another reviewer was complaining about, I would highly recommend this product. I've used really bad, old canisters, and mostly used uprights, and this vacuum is the best - if you have hardwood floors the canister is the way to go, but, even on carpets, I think I would prefer this particular model to an upright anyday, which are generally heavy and clunky to lug around, in my opinion (I originally tested the floor model on the berber carpet at LnT and it worked very well there, too, but I couldn't say for higher/thicker/whatever carpets).
